Yep, me too – stumped. I had a service engineer from our local whitegoods supplier come out to review. Obviously it behaved when he was here, and ran fine. He noted that the heater relay on the control board seemed to be problematic – perhaps sticking on for longer than it should, and this was leading to the machine trying to lower the temperature by adding more cold water (?)
It’s run a couple more times without problems (30 deg cottons wash – express) but stopped again this morning all lights flashing. Seems to be more of a control board than a hardware issue, so might just have to send it to scrap and replace in the absence of any other ideas.
Thanks for all the help Dave – really appreciated.

All checked – no breaks visible.

Update – disconnected the heater. Checked resistance – 29 ohms – happy with that. Blew into pressure switch – audible click, and checked contacts with multimeter – open circuit normally; closed circuit when blown into.
Started cycle – synthetic 30 deg express wash – ran for 13 minutes, stopped all lights flashing!
Running out of ideas now – any more pointers Dave? Temp sensor at heater? Of interest – am I able to calculate the age from the serial number – trying to decide now if I should call it quits! Appreciate your help – thank you.

Yep that pressure sw looks different to mine – if it is that, I hope the connectors are the same.. will try heater first though.
When you say disconnect the heater and see what happens – do you mean to try to run it with the heater disconnected? And the temp sensor wires – check that they are connected properly, no obvious breaks or looseness?
    Thanks again Dave.

Hi Dave, that’s a good point re the heating – it might be tripping when the heating cycle starts. I replaced the heating element last year when it had obviously failed (used to trip the ring main circuit breaker when the heating cycle started). Hadn’t considered it was faulty because it’s reasonably new – might be worth removing it to check. Just a resistance check should do it? I’m assuming normal resistance is 20-40 ohms.
Didn’t see a link for the pressure sw – did you link to it?
    Thanks for your help.

Forgot to close this one out – I did as Dave said – tipped it back and disconnected the hose from the switch, then blew back though it with a bike pump connected to one of my daughter’s reuseable metal straws to get the access I needed. Worked brilliantly – sorted – thank you!

Further – the level switch is not the one for this model (WAE24060BG/02) on the espares website – its an oddball B1-242b 9000188245.. don’t know if that’s relevant? For what it’s worth, after the lights flashed for the second time (post above), I switched to rinse and spin and it worked like a charm to rinse and spin, just doesn’t get very far through a wash cycle.

Hi Dave – thanks for your help.
Changed the brushes this morning – they were down to about 15mm long so definitely on their way out – brush housings were dusty with carbon so gave them and the commutator a good hoovering out.
Also checked the level switch tube – disconnected it at the switch end and blew through – it was clear, and the chamber at the bottom end was clean and clear as well.
Boxed it back up, it ran for about 5 minutes on a 30 degree cotton wash – then stopped with all lights flashing.
Switched it off, then ran the drain cycle to empty the drum, then restarted it on a 30 deg synthetic express wash – (seems to fill high – approx half way up the door glass – don’t remember it being this high before..)
It seemed to run well, if some slight whirring noise from the brushes with the motor turning in one direction (I was careful to install them the right way round so they didn’t click when I turned the motor by hand) then when it got about 30 minutes though this cycle it stopped, all lights flashing again.
Any more pointers? Could there be more dust in the motor that’s causing the intermittent faults and thus a motor replacement might be in order?
As usual, all help is much appreciated – thanks.

Hi Dave – no- not checked them. Will take a look – thank you. The motor works well though – seems to spin and turn well. What leads you to considering the brushes? Thanks for your help.

Latest development – this week it’s back to filling, then stopping with all lights flashing very soon after loading. Think this is leading me towards the pressure switch. Will check to be sure.
Also yesterday it decided to do a different show, and did a one-off rendition of “spin” and “Wash” lights flashing.
Anyone got any better ideas than the pressure switch? Thanks in advance.

So opened it up; bottom drain pipe (and ball) was full of scale and sediment; and water had leaked past the O ring and into the pump. Further; the pump discharge was nearly blocked with scum and scale. I cleaned out the bottom drain pipe and soaked it in descaler until it was cleaned up.

I obtained a new (generic at £35 rather than Bosch at £70) pump and fitted it, then ran it on a hot wash with more descaler to check leaks. All OK so far – that might have been what was required. Am cleaning up and restoring the original pump and keeping it as standby.

Perhaps the original fault was a slow discharge, or a timed-out discharge level alarm. If only there was a guide to the lights!

    Thanks for your help Dave.

Thanks Dave, so pop it on to it’s back and take the sump hose off the bottom of the drum and give it a good clean out? Will do.
Is there anywhere I can find out what the lights mean for future reference?
Cheers for your help, much appreciated.

    Hi Dave,
Thanks for your reply. Not sure – I think it’s about 20 minutes in. The heater is OK – I replaced it in the summer. The pump inlet had some scum in it – I took the drain cap off (bottom RHS front of the machine) and cleaned out a lot of scale/soap scum and it worked OK for one more load. Next load it stopped and the lights all flashed again.
I was able to turn it off, then set it to drain, then spin, and then it’s OK to open it and start again.
Serial number is WAE24060BG/02. No digital display.
Any help much appreciated – thank you.
