    Engineer called and was most impressed by my knowledge ! He just happened to have a spare unit with him and the job is done and dusted. FYI, 2 of the legs were broken completely through and it was all gunged up.

    Many thanks once again.
    Pulling on the drum lip at each leg in turn produces a knocking at one location which seems to confirm your origonal diagnosis. I will sound really expert when the repaiman calls later today.

    Thanks Goatboy, Are you suggesting that one leg of the support may be broken,as I have tried moving the drum side to side by hand through a complete rotation but it all seems pretty secure. The machine also works fine on high spin unloaded. Are there any other checks you know of to isolate the cause?
