Thanks for your advice Jim, Penguin and Steven.

Originally i started the dryer with the back panel on but the there was a smell of burning from the element area so i removed it just to check it was the element that was burning. After your advice i would assume the element is doing this becasue the fan is not turning on the heat setting.
Is there any part i can remove and take into a test centre to check whether it is faulty?

The motor will not run on an heat setting, although on the cold tumble setting both the motor and the fan run fine without the element heating up?
