Thanks for the advice … which confrimed that things really are as bad as I had first thought. Anyone else reading this may wish to know that in the end I went for a ‘quicker and dirtier’ aproach. i.e removed 5 screws from the back of the RH side panel. Bent the side panel enough to gain access. Did the job (you need a very small 8mm C spanner). Bent the panel back and re-attached.

I now have a crease down the side of my unit but it works 🙂 and, once it is back in it’s slot, who cares ?

Not for the professional but it works … Can we bodge it? Yes we can.

The problem I, and I suspect the original poster, am having is working
out how to get at the underside of the tub in the first place. I put the
machine on it’s back expecting find some sort of access cover underneath
but the base plate seems to be pretty solidly fixed to everything else.

I can take the plastic cover off the back but that does not reveal
anything interesting. I can’t believe I have to take all the external
panels off but maybe I do.

    Any help gratefully received.
