Solved the problem.
Quite possibly the problem had nothing to do with the control panel and the washer dryer board, nothing to do with the cold water inlet valve whose resistance reading was a bit on the high side, and nothing to do with the pressure sensor. Nothing to do with a blocked condenser.
What solved the problem was replacing the drain pump.
The original pump was an Askoll model M.50, which was replaced about 18 months back by a washing machine engineer who fitted a new pump an Askoll model M.221 . Looks like a straight equivalent, same amps and power as the M.50. Anyway the new pump I bought was another Askoll model M.50 drain pump.
The old pump was removed by removal of a single Philips screw then rotating the pump body anti-clockwise about 1/16th of a turn, then it can be pulled off. Reversed these steps to fit the new pump.
Thought I’d come back and post the fix. Nb the pump I replaced was still fine for a normal wash, and could do the rinse and drain. It was not showing the fault code F04, which is indicative for a drain fault.
A weak/failing pump obviously can give the symptoms I had i.e. Either water pooling at the base of the inner drum, or wet/damp patches on machine ‘dried’ laundry.
Thanks the suggestion BTW that the pump might be the possible culprit.

Replaced the pressure sensor today, but clothes are still coming out wet through on the drying cycle. So too much water (from the condenser feed) must be accumulating in the outer drum. Once that fills up to a certain level you get a puddle in the bottom of the inner (washing drum) drum that wets the clothes.
I’ve run out of ideas, so we’ll keep it as a washer and get a separate tumble dryer.
Defeated.

Thanks for that comment. The new waste pump was fitted by an engineer, I can’t say for certain but generally they seem to fit genuine Bosch parts. Their view is that it’s less hassle CF the pattern parts, as they offer a longish guarantee with all their repairs.
It’s something to check though. Thanks for the advice.
PS Yes the clip on pcb board was also changed along with the main panel.
PPS pump isn’t shutting down due to overheating during the drying cycle. Just isn’t being told to pump every time when it should be, just sometimes.

I’ve done more reading round, and I think maybe I’ve got some understanding of the fill/drain system. It seems that the machine has a pressure sensor, as the drum fills with water it compresses the air in an air filled, air tight tube which leads to this sensor. On filling for a wash, the sensor has a higher pressure switch which reports back to control panel via that now closed circuit. The control panel then sends the signal to close the main water inlet valve.
Similarly during draining and drying , I guess there’s a lower pressure switch in the sensor which sends a signal, maybe when it’s open, to the control panel which then turns off the waste water pump.
Maybe in my case that part of the pressure sensor/pressure switch is a bit dicky. So when it should be telling the control panel to switch the pump on to pump away a buildup of the condenser water, it doesn’t, water builds up in the drum and wets those clothes or part of the load that is at the base of the drum.
I had the pipes off, and checked for anything might cause a random/temporary blockage of the pressure sensor pipes, unfortunately nothing was found lurking in those pipes.
People seem to say that the pressure sensors themselves rarely malfunction, but I think I’ll replace it to see if that cures the problem. Compared to other jobs on this machine, it’s relatively easy to get at and remove.
Still any other ideas, reset procedures, advice would be most welcome.
Thanks.

Is there way to get a copy of the circuit diagram for this model or a copy of the TDS online disc for Zanussi products ?
Further info:- When I replaced the thermostat I noted that one of the wires for the door’s microswitch was routed through the thermostat. Could this be involved in switching on an electrical item (other than the interior light) ?
