Thanks a lot for everybodys input.I have one more avenue to explore. I live in a flat and the fellow upstairs has such a device so will seek his assistance to check the things you mentioned.

    Thanks again :salute:

Can I assume then that although the element I have put in has a thermistor (although not connected because it is a newer version than the one I removed) the element itself should still work if everything was ok, and my problem lies elsewhere?

I’m no engineer so am unable to meter existing one.

The economy button will not budge it has completly
siezed up. Other buttons are ok

I am now at a loss

The element that I removed did not have a thermistor in it nor are there any connectors for a thermistor to attatch to.

When I ordered the element online, whichever web site I went into (checking prices) they all quoted c/w thermistor, but until you so kindly informed me what it was I was in the dark.

There is something at the side of the heater element which has electrical connectors to it but obviously I haven’t a clue what this is.

    Regards

My domestic operative tells me that if she tweaks it past the point where the m/c just agitates it continues thro the programme.

Economy button ceased to work a long time ago.

Sorry no I did not check heater element for continuity/resistance as my domestic operative assured me it was the element that was at fault.

If there is no thermostat in this model …what controls the temperature?
