Main element is in circuit all the time ,the other element is only on or off depending on selected position of the switch ie: in or out.
Thanks Washman for your comments which are logical, but as I said the Zanussi switching enables No 1 element at machine switch on and by operating the second switch the power supply is removed from the No 1 element but not diverted to the No 2 element.
I have now completely removed the entire wiring harness and heater assembly, and placed it on a workbench which allows me to see exactly what’s happening especially regarding the two elements, and although the elements are both testing resistance continuity, only the one ever energises, and that’s not surprising due to no live feed being presented to the second one under all conditions in the wiring circuit.
From my findings I can only draw the conclusion that it is basically a one heat level machine, and the low heat button simply removes the connection from the element which allows the heat to slowly decay giving a progressive rate of residual heat from the main element.
Which still begs the question with respect “Why did Zanussi include a second element” in the main heater unit which is never used.

Hello Martin thanks for your reply, and also for moving my incorrectly located post 😉 yes there are two buttons, first switch is machine fully off with button out, and second switch push for low heat, and out for full heat, but at the rear of the second switch there is no live feed to the element unit only an element disconnect pair of contacts, meaning when low heat is selected there is no element being fed at all.
