OK, thanks. So do you think getting a new grill element and changing that is worth a punt for the sake of £35 or so. I’m guessing changing a thermostat is a lot trickier?

Sorry, I’m obviously getting a bit confused here or I haven’t been very good at explaining things. I kind of thought you meant the thermostat as there isn’t a separate energy regulator with a dial for the grill. To be clear (more for my benefit that yours!), here’s a pic of the front of my oven. Grill is selected using the leftmost dial then the thermostat dial is used to control the temp. Same thermostat dial for the oven if that’s selected.
Apologies if I’m being a complete imbecile. Thanks for your patience – it’s very much appreciated.

That makes sense, though I’m slightly unsure what you’re asking about for positions 4 or 5 – as the items labelled 4 or 5 in the diagram are hob controllers (4 being single zone, 5 being dual zone – on my range at least). The grill/oven temperature control would be item 19 I think, though it’s more than possible I’ve got completely the wrong end of the stick!
Let me know if I need to clarify anything. Thanks.

Unfortunately this continues…
I replaced the selector switch and all seemed fine. To be honest I was quite chuffed that I managed to get all the wires connected to the right pins and was on the verge of posting lots of thanks here!Anyhow, the oven got a fair bit of use in most modes except grill over a couple of weeks, but the first time the grill was used the same problem occurred… the grill started to heat up ok but after a few minutes I turned the temp dial down. At the point that you get the little click and it turned the element off, the RCD tripped. The RCD was reset and we had the same problem that we had had before immediately after. That is that the RCD would trip if any of the main oven options were selected, not just the grill.
The following day all the main oven functions could be used again, and we’ve been using it frequently again in all modes except grill succesfully for another couple of weeks. So any ideas on what the issue might be? A faulty safety thermostat?
Thanks again in advance!

Thanks kwatt. I can see it’s the first of these. I’ll let you know how I get on!

Thanks for the quick response. OK, I see. I’ll have a look at getting the hob top off and inspecting the selector switch tomorrow. In the meantime here are the details:
ART is PDE100NMP, and I think the serial no. is 02240555 if I’m reading the right bit.
Thanks again
