So….to follow up on this. Turns out Martin was spot on and there was a small amount of water in the base tray that had triggered the anti flood device. The water was the consistency of soup and had clearly been there a long time. There was evidence of a leak from the back of the unit at the joint between the main washing cabin and the base unit underneath but again, it had clearly been there a long time. The engineer cleaned everything up, ran some sealant around the leaky joint and all seems well.
He charged me £38 which I thought was very reasonable. He was very critical of Bosch build quality from a supposedly premium make and said he would recommend Beko from a reliability/quality point of view.
Anyway problem solved, great forum and many thanks to Martin for his input…. 😀
