Penguin45.
I agree that 8 years is not exceptional service though a very hard eight years of, frankly, abuse is certainly acceptable service. And I would rather pay between £200 and £300 every 6 years or so (only £50 a year!) than pay £600 + and have higher expectations that are therefore more likely to be dashed.
Furthermore as with, for instance, cars people change appliances for a number of reasons and not just because it has gone U/S, features, style, new kitchen = new appliance, new house = new appliance etc etc.
However as with cars the point you make about pennies-per-wash versus energy in production (embeded carbon) is a good one, the problem is we are encouraged to trade in our gas guzzlers for new more economical vehicles when in truth it is better to run the gas guzzler into the ground and not generate the demand for the new car to be built, this also applies to domestic appliances and to light bulbs etc.

Working on that principle your next Indesit will possibly last 4 years. :rolls:
Hi Jim,
How do you work that out? The current one is going strong and may last until it is 8 years old or longer.
Also it has been used more extensively than the previous one due to kids growing up and the wife often overloads it to the extent that I, with a little mechanical sympathy, feel sorry for it.
So prior to your comments, Indesit’s WHICH best-buy status and our own experiences suggest a new Indesit would be the way to go.
Nevertheless your advice is appreciated and duly noted.

Hi,
We had different symptoms, see here:
http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/modules.p … ic&t=37138
Though it turned out that a connector on the PCB had come loose, worth a look.
I guess the mods and engineers on here make comments about Ariston/Indesit based on experience though ours has been great over 6 years and our previous Ariston was great over 8 years. Hence I reckon that if we needed a new on now we would get the Indesit that is currently a WHICH best buy.

Fixed!
I took the motor off, brushes OK though I cleaned the commutator, no luck.
Due to lack of fault codes I reckoned that the PCB would be the next port of call, I went to take it off to look for burnt contacts etc only to find a loose connector, as I say fixed!
Searching these forums it seems that this model can be troublesome. However I can say that our machine has been hammered daily for six years, washing for a family of five and the wife has a tendancy to heavily overload it! Though the only problem prior to this has been a thrown belt caused by a rather imbalanced excess load.
