    Re: Samsung RS21DCSV

Any more thoughts? I’m now having to resort to using a timer on the plug that allows frozen food in the fridge to defrost during the hours the unit is turned off. Freezer temp falls to -5c overnight before the timer kicks in and gets back to -18c. This means the unit is only powered up during:

    0600-0800
    1200-1330
    1800-2130

Not exactly the ideal way to operate a fridge/freezer but is now the only way I can stop items from freezing in the fridge 🙁

    Those were before photos.

All sensors have been plugged back in. I know it’a a bit fiddly with the light panel but they are definitely back in.

With the door open, and pressing in the light switch, I can hear the fan kick in, the fan is on pretty much all of the time. The fan on the cover moves freely. when I was de-icing the defroster with a hair dryer, I gave the fan a blast in case it was jammed but it spun freely and and at high speed suggesting there is no ice.

I agree that the insulation on the bottom is in a bad state and whilst I know this can allow ingress of water in the air which can then turn to ice, it doesn’t lead me to believe it’s the cause of my woes, mainly being the digital display reporting an incorrect reading by a hefty margin. We’re now 6 hours in since rebuild and it states 22c on the display and yet we’re actually at -6c inside going by a portable thermometer.

New defrost heater in, nothing has changed 🙁

Temp display seemingly random and yet fridge constantly cooling down.

I took a photo of the old one I replaced just in case you spot anything odd:

If you look at the next pic, I noticed the foam was sat above the tip of the thermal trip, is the right location or should it be down covering the tip?

Other than that, any other suggestion? Fridge currently says 25c, inside thermometer says 7c and still cooling down same as before. Give it an hour and I’ll be back in the sub zero range 🙁

Brilliant thank you. Will order the heater and report back after.

    Re: Samsung RS21DCSV

Any reason why that would fail between transit though? Or whether my cleaning in the back of the unit caused anything untoward?

Can I just replace the Main Evaporator Defrost Heater or do you advise changing the sensor, thermal fuse and cover too? I’d rather go down the cheaper route but if you think it’s essential I change out the other parts too, then I will.

Thanks a lot for your help.

Hope it’s ok to jump in here, having a nightmare with my mum’s RS21DCSV which we have taken ownership of. Up until that point, the fridge has worked flawlessly which is what’s baffling me. Between moving sites, it has taken on problems which are mostly what others have experienced. The only thing I did was to clean out behind the back cover because it was absolutely filthy:

After waiting 48 hours, I plugged it in and our first problem occurred, it tripped the house electrics after several hours of operation. Leaving it unplugged for 2 hours was the only way to get it to not trip. I stumbled upon the fix for this by turning off the ice cube making function. Bizarrely, that function now works fine and the fridge no longer trips however the water feed stopped working with the water tank frozen.

The second problem is the display stating an incorrect temp for the fridge. It was showing 14c which when you open the door, clearly is much colder than 14c. After purchasing a standalone temp gauge, I confirmed I was right and that the fridge was colder, much colder. In fact -7c was the lowest temp it hit over 24 hours.

This problem then morphed into the fridge getting incredibly hot at the top, 18c. which the bottom was still really cold, just above freezing although this was occasionally. The majority of the time, the fridge is just too cold 0.1c with much colder in the lower compartments and slightly higher on the top shelves.

    Things I have done:

Taken the front panel off to look inside and check continuity checks on the sensors (note I’m not expert on this and have only gone by Youtube), all sensors come back with 1300 or thereabouts.

Still thinking it could be a sensor faulty, I have purchased a “SAMSUNG RS21 Fridge Freezer DEFROST SENSOR DA3200006W” but have not seen any change in the above.

Finally I am now starting to see the heater element freeze over. This wasn’t happening at first but has now started.

Have I been unlucky with timing and this is all a coincidence, or could something have happened whilst the unit was being transported to our house? I don’t want to shell out over £100 for the repair kit to find that wasn’t the cause of my woes. Any advice welcome.
