    Re: Staining

Not the sludge depositing lumps into the clothes after being loosened in the hotter wash then? Which , taking your mucky machines page a step further would , in my mind, account for the randomness… No?

It’s just so weird how it just started with no change to any products used other than that conversion to liquid detergents.

I am honestly drawing blank now, I’m also not a “blame the tools” kind of person, I’ll always check for the human error option first because I’ve done plenty of daft things in my time but this one really has me stumped. I got the beckmann rescue kit with the 3 types of stain remover in and not one worked on any of the items affected not even a slight fade. Glow white….nothing.

I will bow out as gracefully as possible because otherwise we’ll just go round in circles now I think.

I will give it a week or two to see if more stains appear after having used enough cleaning products and bleach in the machine this last few days, not to mention the electricity to fuel the boil washes, to wipe out a large section of rain forest.

If it’s worked then I’ll know, if not then I’m no wiser and will probably need committing before the year is out!

    Thanks again.

    Re: Staining

The tshirt itself is white, for some reason my phone chooses to cast a creamy mottled tint on a lot of pictures which is why I originally went for the oh so bright white of the much newer RL Polo and the stains on that are of the darker reddish browny grey

    Re: Staining

Ok …perhaps I’m feeling the frustration a little more than I realised 😳

This is the very first item that I saw this on months ago, it has been washed a fair few times since. It’s my daughter’s pe shirt which would point towards sweat if there were actually any around the pits, neck areas but those areas are totally without marks of any kind. In that same wash it marked a pair of white pants, a white vest top and another t shirt….nothing else. The marks are always this sort of blob/splat with no fading towards the edges. If the colour does not show up well it is more orangey sometimes tending towards a more red/pink grey hence my likening it to the colour of weak black tea.
Only my husband uses hair products, we’re not a primping kind of family. We use deodorant, shampoo and conditioner, shower gel and toothpaste … end of.
I use Ariel liquid either colour or regular depending on the wash and comfort sunshine days (yellow) using the doses recommended for hard water area. I used to use Ariel bio powder but was told that this was what was causing black school trousers and blazers to fade to a brownish black. The liquid goes into the cap thing and into the drum, the softener goes in the dispenser drawer

I do about 5-7 loads of colours per week at 40* and 1-2 whites washes per week at 60* . Up until now I’ve always closed the loading door.

But anyway these pics are of the one shirt

    Re: Staining

Ok thanks again for the time.

I think I mentioned that the staining is not just happening in areas where you would expect sweat stains, that’s one of the first things I thought or spilled food or grease marks from suncreams etc. Honestly I’ve read so much before I found this site on a different idea that the washing machine or something in the machine could be causing this. I’d actually thought perhaps something had come out of a pocket or a hair pin or something but the stains are wrong for rust too apparently.
It seems to be a certain type of fabric ie T shirt type material school blouses/shirts have never been affected in the same wash and trust me my sons’ school shirts got sweaty because he can’t see a ball without wanting to kick it!

It’s happened to a pair of pants but not on the waist band or the inner thigh/crotch area but one big splotch on one butt cheek for want of a better phrase , sorry had wanted to refrain from using that one but … the stains are completely random honestly …perhaps that polo shirt was not the best example it was just the newest , whitest item that showed it up the best to the camera on my phone .

I appreciate the time you have all taken but get the sense that I’m being politely shown the door here so ….

Once again thankyou for your time and for the provision of a pretty informative site with the articles that have been pointed out to me. Please feel free to delete this thread and the account I created to pose my question 🙂

    Cheers

    Re: Staining

Hmmmm….but why would they suddenly start appearing and only on whites. This has started happening in the last 6 months tops, I have a husband and two teenage sons the two former being football players and the latter being a rugby player during his school years plus myself and a teenage daughter and never have I had “sweat” stains such as this. I’m open to suggestions and would never presume to know everything but that just doesn’t add up to me. The picture is of a virtually brand new polo shirt worn maybe 5 times and not in a situation where my son would sweat that amount and in such weirdly random splotches. I have tried just about every one of the beckmann range of stain removers, oxy gold gel, oxy soak and in wash. Every highly recommended stain remover plus bicarb, lemon juice, lemon juice and salt combo …. left in the sun to dry….you name it, I’ve tried it, this site was my last ditch attempt not my first port of call. 🙁

As much as I would dearly love to get rid of the stains, which started on one day in one wash and I asked at home which clumsy so n so had spilt something in my ironing basket and not even had the decency to fess up so it could be rewashed, but I need to stop it happening again.

The mould in the drum is the only thing to me that makes sense now ….perhaps it’s the fact that whites are the only thing I wash at higher temperatures and that is maybe causing some of the “lumps” mentioned on an info page on this site to slightly dissolve and break away into the wash? Although I’ve never seen any obvious lumps, just the stains on the clothes….it really is the only thing that thus far has made me think “yeah that could be it” given that I had switched to using liquid detergents also in the last year maybe, which would give time for a build up to occur and then to start breaking away. The only thing to negate that would be that I do a 60 deg whites wash once a week which potentially could stop the build up from happening but then again I always close the door so creating an environment to foster that build up …. I’ve always closed the door, never knew not to… so the only thing that has changed is the detergent from powder to liquid.
It’s just so bad and so sudden that even to people who have suggested it, they see the photo and can’t seem to believe it happened like that so quickly *shrugs* I think it hit about 3 items in one wash the first time, missed may be one wash then happened again, then again…. The Polo shirt was the last straw when it got hit in this last wash last weekend 😐

    Re: Staining

Firstly thanks for taking the time to keep replying 🙂
That’s just one of the items and it’s random ….totally random, my daughters pe shirt has a massive splotch up the back, my son’s has it up one side, another t shirt has it on the hem line, like I say it looks like someone has spilled weak black tea into a basket of laundry but no one here drinks tea let alone black tea.
That’s why I thought it was something in the washing machine, it’s got to be, nothing else makes any sense because the marks weren’t there before, but you see what I mean about expecting to see something on colours too as it’s that obvious on whites, it doesn’t fade out around the edges, it’s a definite “splash” type pattern.
Does this mean you no longer think build up in the drum? I was so hoping it was that and curable by huge amounts of hot water and bleach.
I have a 90deg wash with a half bottle of thick bleach in there on the go at the moment I’m that pigged off with it all. I figure all those bubbles will get up around the top of the drum and if it bubbles out…well that’s what mops are for right? Just hope it can’t do damage to the machine but if I’m looking at having to replace it, I’ve not much to lose I suppose. 😐
Oh …another thought – I live in a really hard water area of North Lincs
    Any other thoughts much appreciated.
    Thanks

    Re: Staining

I couldn’t see it in any of the local stores so thanks for that link. I sent a pic of my problem to Dr Beckmann and they say they’ve never seen anything like it … so I’m going to try to add a picture here for your opinion / confirmation or whatever you’d prefer to call it. I won’t hold you to anything mind, its just so I feel like I’ve given as much info as possible because nothing is shifting these stains…. soaks, stain removers, bleach ….Nothing works 😕

I can’t find anything that says how to upload a picture so I will just post this and then have a looksee, trial and error kind of thing

    Re: Staining

Oh my! I just skim read that topic and the mould lumps link on the page….well who’d have thought that something designed to clean your clothes would do that! I think I shall revert to powder. I will look for Affresh when I go shopping and in the meantime put the machine through a few boils to see if I can save myself the cost of a new washing machine. I will continue to read through the links as I’ve now spotted the stain removal section. Hopefully I can reclaim my son’s RL Polo shirt at least, he may speak to me again after all!!
    Thankyou!
