Many thanks for these helpful suggestions and we will investigate. Is the valve and filter mesh something I can get at and replace with a spare or do I need an engineer?

Are you suggesting that the water supply to the washing machine should always be switched off before the combi boiler is serviced?

Many thanks for your help. I will contact engineer who did the boiler service and get him to check the hot water pressure.. Are there likely to be any other reasons for washing powder being left in the tray?
