It worked! The little fan is whizzing round! So now I will put all the plastic baffles and cladding back on to direct the cold air to the fridge and see if it gets cold at last!

Thanks Rickard…it did kick round for a sec. What a weird problem!
Is it something to do with the resistance of the fan and the sensitivity of the circuit board which is not reflected on the workbench and straight mains environment? I guess I’ll look for a fan now.
I’ll post the results….this has to end soon!
Regards

Thanks so much…..I am doing it now. Can you tell me the reason why this is as you describe….please don’t think I am doubting you at all….I ‘m just interested to learn:-)

Hello again, I thought it must be the PCB after all, so I got it out and saw a burnt looking part at the end of the board where the LCD display is situated just behind the buttons that control the temp and compartment being viewed etc.
Ho Ho thinks I , I’ve finally got it! The heat appeared to have affected a triac(BT139-600) and a couple of 330 ohm resistors so I replaced those (quite cheap under a tenner) put it all back together and hey presto…….. nothing, nix sweet fanny adams!!! The problem is still the same as when I started, I guess I didn’t find the real problem on the board. I am very close to giving up now as I can’t see me spending another £120 on a new board and still having useless lump of metal and plastic in my kitchen. Any advice gratefully received before I finally kick this thing into touch….Regards DirkAugust 13, 2010 at 11:06 pm in reply to: Yet another Hotpoint Mistral Plus (frost free) temp problem #326583chestnuts99

Hi, yes! the little internal fan in the back of the freezer compartment runs for about 2-3 secs when powered on …what does this mean?? thanks for your help 🙂

Oh dear, I have been waiting for the new thermistors to arrive which they did today. I replaced both and wait for it…..~@!!# nothing..freezer is -21 fridge is room temp and the jolly fan inside resolutely refuses to move.
Is it time to give up…how much is a pcb? CheersAugust 9, 2010 at 4:37 pm in reply to: Yet another Hotpoint Mistral Plus (frost free) temp problem #326578chestnuts99

Thanks guys, I tried removing the flap in the fridge to no effect…..and I already ordered the yellow thermistor. Should I wait and order the green one too or can I try it and see if just the yellow one is the fix? Can I damage anything by doing that or is it just a case of it won’t work until both are changed? Cheers

Hmmm the fan works fine on the bench although it did seem to get very hot after about 30 secs of running (2×15 sec bursts). I guess this means the power is not arriving at the terminal block on the rear wall…… is this likely an electronic control panel failure, or a sensor failure ? Cheers……….

Well the freezer is now down to -13 and the little internal fan is not going round….I guess I’ll power off and test it …..Can you still get these if a new one is required? Cheers……..

Hi Thanks for the reply. I hadn’t noticed the deeply recessed screws in the bottom of the freezer.
so….the current state after leaving the machine to defrost for about a week, is that after 4 hours on fast freeze the freezer reached -19c but the fridge refuses to move below room temp…. the heat exchanger and pipes associated with it are all clean and ice free. I found the internal vents in the freezer and 2 in the fridge, one behind the light panel (sneaky!) they all seem clear………. I guess I’ll have to wait to see if the little internal fan works when the freezer hits -6 again. Is this the fan that will get the fridge to the correct temperature? It rotates freely enough…does it have a fuse somewhere….?
Thanks again

Hope that clarifies……… Dirk -
