Just to close this thread off, I tried doing what you suggested but i found the valve stem didn’t budge – I wasn’t going to remove it without damaging it. I therefore bit the bullet and replaced the whole valve assembly which has fixed the problem. Once again, thanks for all the advice.

OK, I’ve received the part I ordered, and the result is… partial fix! The most frustrating of all fixes.

As discussed above, I ordered a second-hand but incompatible Bosch part from eBay, extracted a coil from it (which I checked and is working) and replaced the bad coil in my valve assembly. I put the machine back together, ran the Superquick 15′ cycle and it worked fine. Job done, machine back in place, celebratory cup of tea.

The problem came as soon as we started actually using it. Any programme apart from Superquick runs into problems at some point in the cycle.

    • The Superquick 15′ programme works 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} reliably without complaint, with and without a load.
    • Any other programme we try (Rinse, Powerwash 60′, Cottons, Fluff Clean…) will complain at some point or other with the beeping and the flashing tap indicator.
    • The Rinse and Fluff Clean programme behave in a reliable and consistent manner. About two minutes in they start complaining. The Rinse programme takes some water in initially, then starts complaining, but after a few minutes seems to make it past that point and then completes the programme successfully.
    • The Powerwash 60′ we have run twice. In both cases it made it to the end of the programme eventually. The first time it made it 45 minutes into the 60 minute programme. It then complained with the flashing tap for about five minutes, then seemed to get past it and complete the programme successfully. The second time we ran it I was out of the room initially, but my wife reported it was complaining early on in the programme and she had to stop and restart it. It then made it all the way through until about 7 minutes remaining, then complained for five minutes, then made it past and completed the programme.
    • The fabric softener compartment in the drawer seems to be filling with water during some (all?) programmes, which my wife says she has not seen happen before.

So now I’m stumped again. On the upside, we are able to wash clothes again, either using the Superquick programme or via nursing it through one of the others. Obviously something isn’t right though. What’s strange is that the machine seems quite capable of doing all the functionality it needs to do: filling, draining, spinning, heating, etc. except it stops and complains along the way.

    • I’ve checked the coils in the valve again and they are all still good. Given that I didn’t go the expensive route of replacing the whole valve, I suppose it could still be the problem? Perhaps the rubber diaphragm has perished as well? It’s an expensive punt at £97, unless the water in the drawer is a decisive clue!
    • Given that all the mechanical functionality does seem to be working, perhaps this is now a control board problem?
    • I’m also vaguely wondering whether it might be a draining issue. My only real reason for this is in both cases when the Powerwash cycle got past it’s late pause, the next thing it did was drain the machine, so perhaps this is the step it’s having problems with. But on the other hand, as far as I can tell the flashing tap is always used to indicate a filling rather than a draining issue, and the machine is routinely draining at other times in the cycle without complaint.

As always, any thoughts much appreciated!

I’ve managed to extract the coil from the valve without difficulty so I’ve gone the eBay route. Hopefully it will get here quickly and be a fit, or the kids will have to start wearing their underwear inside out!

Thanks again for all the advice, I really appreciate it.

Right, I think we’re on to something now. Using this image as a reference:

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/i2x0ahid7s75gco/20200519_233751.jpg?dl=0

I measure 4.05k ohms on the red contacts, 3.85k ohms on the blue, and on the green I’m getting 1 on the multimeter all the way up to its 2M ohm limit.

So it looks like the coil has blown. I guess I need to replace this part. I think I’ve found the part I need on the Bosch website (https://www.bosch-home.co.uk/store/00618406#/Tabs=section-fitsappliance/), I haven’t identified the equivalent part in the shop on this website yet but I’m looking!

Right, got it: thanks very much for the pointer, and Dave for the original suggestion.

Unfortunately this does not seem to be the problem: no sign of any blockage or residue in the chamber at the bottom of this tube. So I’m still stuck. If you have any more ideas, they would be gratefully received!

The one other thing I’ve done today is actually measure the water pressure. I was confident it was fine, but worth checking anyway. I estimate I’m getting about 9 litres / min, which I think is more than good enough from what I’ve read.
