ParticipantWell – this is strange. I emailed Elica via the form, but obviously don’t expect a reply until later today at the earliest. And yes, you are correct; this model has twin motors, which apparently rotate in opposite directions. But I digress…
When I came down this morning, my husband was busily making his porridge, with the extractor running at low speed. He had turned it on as usual this morning, said he heard a “clack” sort of sound, and suddenly…..no vibration. OK, so there’s a tiny bit on the highest speed, but it isn’t so much that it’s literally transmitting to the adjacent cabinets.
I cannot remember if this unit has a non-return baffle on the outlet, and without removing the rigid ducting, no way to tell. Paperwork is vague – some have it, others don’t. My only thought is that IF it does, it MIGHT have been stuck in the open position, or closed, or whatever. I really have no idea how, what, or why, but at this point, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”.
Your input has been great, and I appreciate it. Hopefully it won’t revert to “broke” mode, and we can get a few more problem-free years out of the monster. There’s still the ‘grease drip’ issue, but I can live with that unless it becomes giant globs.

ParticipantI checked the Elica shop website, and it’s amazing what they DON’T sell. A halogen bulb was listed for 29.99 euro. Couldn’t believe it! But not one fan. Mostly just consumables like the charcoal filters and disposable grease filters.

ParticipantUp to now, I have only found the fan/motor as a single unit (and of course there are 2, so double the joy). This is VERY interesting, and before I hit the “buy” button for a completely new hood, I will check it out.

ParticipantGiven that the fans/motors would be around £100, plus the hassle, I am leaning toward living with it for a while, and then replacing. Seems a shame, but the frustration of stripping down and fitting might push my other half over the edge. We are both on the wrong side of 70, so still think in inches. I can visualise 5 inches, but not 125 MM. go figure. Thanks for all your input; much appreciated.

ParticipantWe did the fitting (along with the electrician), and I know we used the recommended duct size, which I think was 5 inch (sorry – I think in Imperial rather than metric). The run is very short – straight through to an outside wall. I asked the other half if there was any possibility of an obstruction – even a wasp nest – and he said no. I can definitely feel air flowing when I put my hand up to the terminus on the outside wall.
It’s been fine for 3.5 years; this is a recent phenomenon.

ParticipantInteresting – begs the question, how might it have happened, and how would we know aside from replacing it? What annoys me, is that these cooker hoods aren’t ‘cheap and cheerful’ – I think they are quite pricey for what they are.
Thanks for your input!
