I had this same fault with the drum turning, then rocking, and a humming noise. I called a repair company who sent an engineer. He said the motor was knackered and I would be best off buying a new machine.

I found this thread after a quick google, spent £5 on ebay on a starter capacitor, and fitted it in 5 mins. Machine is good as new.
