I have a Whirlpool model FRWW2VAF20/0 model number 8586 400 15000.
The control panel on the front of the freezer is flashing CF. Any ideas if this is user fixable? I’m competent with electronics.
Thanks
Hi Mike. All I know is that CF means “communication fault”, although I’ve had “experts” try to tell me it means Change Filter before. 😉
You should try searching back through this thread as the causes and fixes have been discussed at length. There’s a very high chance you’ll be able to find a solution yourself if you’re competant with electronics.

Hi again femstermum. Assuming it is the condenser fan motor (you should verify that first), then…
1) Yes2) I think this is the right part : http://shop.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/Refriger … Motor.html
3) It looks like a straightforward plug & screw-in job. But take a look at where it’s located and how it’s attached to your unit first. If you’re even slightly unsure, please get an engineer to fit it for you.
It would be great if someone like Chezza could offer his advice too though.femstermum wrote:Thank you both CookieMonster and Chezza for your thoughts on what might be wrong with my FF.
As soon as it started playing up I pulled out the vent and vacuumed there, I do this every once in a while so there was no great build up of dust/dirt, it made no difference.
It sounds like you both agree that it could be the cooling fan motor.
As it is such an old FF 1) Am I going to be able to get a replacement and 2) If they are still available, where would I get one from? and 3) Will I be able to fit it myself?
Many thanks

Hi femstermum. I should clarify that I was just explaining what the problem with mine was and that I’m not a qualified engineer. However if you condenser fan is never coming on, then this may indicate the fault. Please do take advantage of the more qualified members if they are around.
Chezza – sorry I didn’t mean to steal your thunder or anything. I was just trying to offer any help I could. However, a qualified engineer (a call-out) diagnosed that by running my FF so hot for a long time that the increased gas pressure had forced gas out of the tiniest holes (which would be too small for the gas to escape under normal operating pressures). So your laughing is misplaced.

Hi femstermum. I was recently suffering from red-hot panels, so it’s possible your problem is similar to mine.
My problem was the condenser fan motor breaking. You can test this theory by removing the metal panel at the bottom rear of your freezer and looking at the fan located in the centre-rear of the unit. It’s big so you can’t miss it. Assuming you turned off the power before removing the panel, you should turn the power back on and wait for the compressor to kick in (and make that distinctive freezer noise). After a few mins the fan should also kick in. My suspicion is that it will not.
If this is the problem, I think there are 2 possible causes. The fan motor could be burnt out. You could remove the fan (disconnected from mains, obviously) and give it a good sniff. Mine smelt like a burnt out motor (strangely enough). I believe the other possible cause is the rear PCB, which controls the fan).
Either way, it is not a good idea to continue running your FF if the panels are red-hot to the touch as you could damage other components. I didn’t realise this and needed to top my gas up as a result (I won’t get into that). If you want to talk to an expert, I can give you the contact details of Brodders, who is always happy to help. He was a massive help in diagnosing my problems.

Hi guys. I finally finished reading through this mammoth forum. Some of you guys have gone above and beyond to help people out and on behalf of all the non-technical people like me I would like to send out a huge thank you!!!
However, Brodders has helped so many people on here and even driven to people’s houses to help them. He’s even taken the time to put together a fairly comprehensive repair kit and instructions to save people all the hassle of finding components of the right types and sizes themselves.
He doesn’t get paid for coming on here and helping people and from what I’ve seen over the last few days, he seems to get a kicking for his trouble. My personal stance is that people coming on here to help others deserve our respect. The recent arguments seem to have spiraled from a little misundertanding, which is all too common on forums (where things like sarcasm don’t come across).
I would be very surprised to see Brodders back on here again now. Which I think is a real loss for the forum and people genuinely looking for help, like myself. He seems to be more knowledgable about these whirlpool FFs than most people. Can’t we please just put an end to the bickering?
Sorry if I’ve put anyone’s noses out of joint, but I felt like someone had to say something.

Welcome back Brodders. Hope you’ve had a nice break.
I am hoping someone on here can give me some advice on my S25BRSB31-A/G (8586 166 15020 / 11 0246 017517). I moved house a year ago and it was left by the previous owner.
Recently I had the problem with the temp alarms going off and found out about Brodders repair kit. It was worth a punt, but unfortunately didn’t solve my problems. I found that turning the ice maker off would keep the temp down and stop the alarms sounding. However, the fridge was still 15 degrees. I assumed the problem was deeper (or my soldering was bad) so I bought a new PCB off this site over the weekend. After about 20 hours, the temp has dropped to 10-11 degrees. Still not the 2-5 I was hoping for.
I think my FF is from 2002, but when I went to check the rear board it says 2007 on it, so I guess it’s been replaced before. By this logic, I didn’t purchase a new front PCB. The water dispensed was very warm before fitting the new board, but is very slightly cooler now. The fridge door also has trouble staying shut unless you give it a good shove.
Can anyone suggest anything that I can check myself, before I throw money at an engineer? Many thank yous in advance!
