Many thanks for your very prompt and helpful reply.

I recently purchased a Control Panel and on/off switch from UK Whitegoods for this machine and found the fitting quite easy. I guess I may have a problem in accessing and removing the water matrix on the left hand side of the machine without lifting floor tiles to remove the machine from below the worktop.

You suggest that it could be sludge in the three black hoses in the base of the machine. This seems quite pausible as the machine has stood idle for over 12 months.

I wonder if a ‘sink unblocker’ type liquid would help in this situation to loosen and remove the sludge? Could such a remedy cause damage?
