ParticipantRe: New Bearing on Zanussi WDJ1294
Hi yes FYI I never gave a picture of my shaft it was CambridgeDave, Glad this helped SpudULike, as like I said without this forum would have been alot harder for me its always handy to have some advice from others who have been in a similar experience, I agree with Twoten that bearings will indeed fail with water and dirt ingress just that it didn’t seem to be the case with mine and a good seal is needed and its worth checking the shaft and seals to make sure its thoroughly clean and smooth.
Of course a bearing will fail without any dirt etc because of its very nature, it makes sense that a washing machine going once or twice or even more times a day is going to wear out parts more than one being used once a week. Its been 5 months since fixed the washing machine and with at least one wash a day throughout all those months I think I have got me moneys worth out of it and still going strong.
Hope this thread helps anyone else who has this kind of problemcwilso

at least his lasted a year so thats doesn’t prove anything “perhaps” is not a definative conclusion however I take notice of the article. and i would be quite happy with an extra six months.
I also notice the estimates of time that the job would take and the time involved and I agree with the fact it is easier to do in the garage rather than a small kitchen and that really does make the difference between a long and short job.
I repeat again the shaft wasn’t damaged 😀

“You may be lucky” “Who knows” clearly you don’t as you had not seen the shaft. The bearing had not got to the stage where it had damaged the bearing housing or shaft. The shaft was fine and had no corrosion as no water had got passed the original seal. With a brand new seal fitted properly no water will get through either. I would hope that you are not a professional who charges for this insight as putting on new parts which are not needed makes the repair costly.
I appreciate that there are some things, which can’t be attempted without costly equipment especially on the electrical control side, and so a specialist is required. Also I might add that there are people who would never dream off getting under the bonnet of their car and so they would never change a wheel bearing on a car and so no matter if you told them that its easy they would take it to a garage but there are a lot of people who do this repair and they are ones who will search the net for the information on how to do it and It is to these like minded practically people who I say give it ago. Just because you wouldn’t attempt something doesn’t mean you couldn’t

Well after recieving the bearing Kit on saturday in the post got to work that evening on replacing the bearings. Discovered that the front bearing had gone. After splitting the drum and replacing both bearings re assembled an tested. It took me 4hours to complete the task and I thank you for your advice and information on the part reuired. I think for this price it was well worth doing.
I would reccomend anyone giving it ago as £20 and 4hrs of your time is deffinatly worth it. Once again thanks for your help and advice

I don’t Believe that there is no way of finding the code without dismantling. Surely There was 1 standard set of bearings in this model range surely only a serial number is needed
model: WDJ1294
Prod no: 914639008 Type: 6297284
Serial no: 60600178Now that surely should point to every part on the marchine including bearing.
“Be sure to remove mains plug if you intend to proceed further.” No offense but i don’t need to be patronised if I didn’t know this then I sure wouldn’t be attempting this myself and I can quite understand it not a “DIY Fix” however it sure beats a new machine at £300+
