Participantnow I’m begining to get the right kind of feeling for thermostats
I read some info here introducing me to the difference between them all.

Dave, some one I last visited 13 years ago had a late 80s fridge freezer and a washing machine from the early 80s. After not seeing him for the past 13 years I went to see him at flat. He still has the same washer and fridgefreezer. I don’t get it. How is it possible a washer machine can last so long and still looks like knew and works flawless. He told me he has always washed the very heavy stuff by hand and has only washed with light loads in the machine. But still the washer has never once gone wrong and still works after all this time. Thats incredible and has to be some kind of miracle and maybe some kind of record too boot. Both washer and fridgefreezer are brands i have never heard of before.
As a kid in 1978 my mother had an tub top loading washing machine with an electric operated clothes mangel which you feed the clothes through to squeeze out the water. It’s was from the late 1940s. Would definitely be inside a museum now for sure.

Participantis it a bit unusual that when I search for a lec freezer model U.224W, the one I have. I receive no results for this Model. This freezer was great until now. Its very old but compaired to my 4 year old beko fridge which has a door that has become very rusty on its door. But the lec enamel is still spotless after all these years. Still looks like knew why it would be a waist to recycle it to the tip.

This unit is a freezer only not a fridge freezer. Just thought I’d say. Im learning as I go along. By the time ive finished I’ll be able to build my own freezer from the ground up just from chatting and learning from you good folks on here lol. Internet must be one of the best inventions ever.

is this just a freezer or has it got a fridgeif no fridge then your ebay link describes the stat as a fridge freezer stat and if that is the case its meant to work in the fridge section
Dave
It’s a freezer not a fridge freezer.

ParticipantThis is getting a little confusing for me as I am a novice concerning freezers. The lec freezer I have I think comes from the 80s. I have come to understand with its R12 compresser. Don’t want to throw it away as it’s In imaculate condition. It has no built in power or warning display lights. It’s thermostat has two power terminals and one earth terminal on its metal case. I’ve noticed a lot of similar looking thermostats with 3 power terminals but as i said the one in the this freezer has only two power terminals.
I am unable to find the exact numbered thermostat but there is one available to buy and its got the exactly the same number except for one didget ending in 454 instead of 354. Seems to be closely related. The others that have been mentioned the VS5/W5 have 3 power terminals. i have one with two. is this better option for an 80s r12 compresser with no power lights? I guess I shouldn’t buy one that uses 3 power terminals when the one fitted only uses two.
Does someone know how I can definitely find out how to discover for sure the right thermostat. Not going to throw this lec freezer away it would be a complete waist to chuck it without trying to fix it first. The Ranco K50-p1454 thermostat tube is much thicker at its end. the orginal 354 on my lec has a tube that has the same thickness all along its length.
Both the 454 and one fitted to my lec 354 have the longer length control knob metal stem where othes look a bit too short. I’m going by what I see. not what i know about freezers. Hoping that someone will understand what I’m going on about. a bit like a nutty professor lol.

ParticipantI have been looking around. Yesterday I didn’t know anything about freezer thermostats but by the power of the internet it gives power to the needs of many I ended up here.
Does anyone know. What is the difference between a Ranco K50-p1354 and K50-p1454.
I can’t find a replacement for the Ranco K50-p1354 thermostat fitted to my freezer but i have found the 454 one available online. Both have two power terminals and an earth on its metal case. Both are very closely numbered and look identical to each other. Should I give the 454 thermostat a try. Whats the difference between them? The lec freezer u.224w I have runs a R12 compresser just to give a bit more information. The freezer is cosmeticly immaculate and I realise its very old but it would be a waste to tip it for the sake of something that would costs only a few quid to fix it.
