Thanks for all your help Dave, but I actually got it fixed myself at the weekend.
When you mentioned that it could be an electrical short, it struck me that it was something to do with the door, since when I did the reset it started with the door open. I thought that it must think that the door is closed even when it was open.
On closer inspection, it was simply the door latch pushed the spring-loaded door mechanism closed but when I opened the door it did not pull the spring back, hence the machine thought that the door was still closed.
All we had to do was make sure that the latch lined up with the top of the spring mechanism so that it pulled it when I opened the door.
Thanks again, you’ve saved me £200 for call out and circuit board!!!

Is the control unit the same as the circuit board?
I’ve had a quote for one of these at £140.
Is it worth buying one privately or getting an engineer out to check other if it’s other things too?

I only have the left light flashing, no other lights are on.

It is only when I try the reset (press select 4 times) that I get right light (number 5) flashing and the left light (number 1) staying on. It is then that I get the machine starting with the door open as per my other post I mentioned.

Yes it is the same model, Dave.
I’ve got a post on here called ‘Diplomat ADP8132 cannot select programs’ (posted 18th Nov at 9.40am) detailing the problems I’ve had in a bit more detail.

I have the same problem, light one just flashing and not being able to select programs.
Netty – how did you solve this?
ir – pressing the select button doesn’t work. 😥
