Pretty sure it’s a timer problem so I’ll make do with the cold water feed only (I notice new washers only have cold feeds anyway).

Thanks. I’m pretty sure the replacement valve is fine because it was taken off another washer only at the weekend that was scrapped for other reasons. I don’t think I can make out a buzzing noise (presumably after the noise of the timer selecting the appropriate programme), but at the point where you would expect the programme to start and water flow in, there is a definite click.

This suggests to me that the relay (or whatever) is switching so I’ll check out the wiring tomorrow.
