    Problem Solved !

After a few days a significant build up of ice around the fridge element and fan suggested that the heater was at fault. Engineer tested it and found an intermittent fault with this heating element.

Replaced heater for £51.00 and all now ok

I still do not fully understand why the original problem only occured overnight but possibly the main circuit board rechecks the fridge and freezer temps more often during the day when the doors are opened or when the ambient temp is higher.

A timer switch programmed to power off the fridge for 1 minute every four hours does provide a temporary work-around but if the heater has gone you’ll quickly get the ice build-up around the fan.

Sorry – forgot to add the following:

    – This problem has happened each morning for the last 4 to 5 days
    – If I don’t cycle the power the motor doesn’t kick-in and the freezer fully defrosts
    – Both interior lights are working ok – i.e switching off when doors closed
    – Icemaker is workign ok and the little trap door is closing ok after use
    – I assume that during the day the constant opening and closing of the main doors causes the PCB to recheck it’s sensors and to maintain desired temps

    – As a temporary fix I propose to fit a digital time switch to force a couple of power cycles during the night

    Thanks
