ParticipantRe: Easy(?) Question About Leaking Hotpoint WD640
Well I disconnected the sump pipe by disconnecting the jubilee clamp as suedehead1 mentioned and it was full of crud. There appears to be one or two “stain catchers” apparently…will have to have a word with the missus about that as she usually put small items in a wash bag.
Plus there was the usual matted hair and basically blue gunge and a penny…
There was also a table tennis ball, which I am assuming should remain there as part of the drainage…
Will see if the removal of all of this will have a positive affect…thanks to all for the advice.
Just a side note, I am amazed at how clean a washing machine is internally (disregarding the insides of the pipes). Usually any device that sits around gathers dust and crud, but even my old machine was spotless after many many years. Wish this applied to car engines.
Thanks again….

suedehead1,
Thanks for the advice…
Now all I have to do is find out where the sump pump is. I know that when the service guy came out while it was still under warranty he removed a plate at the back of the machine and popped out some gunge…it hasn’t been a problem since (i.e. it failed to drain after washing), but it may not be completely draining the machine before spinning as you say.
Will get it into pieces tomorrow and try and understand what is going on…

iadom,
When the machine is spinning, there is water accumulating inside near the bottom of the door, I think this is due to the spin forces, the machine isn’t full up to that level though, it is only usually a small amount of water gathered at the door.
The problem is that it is intermittent, and doesn’t do it everytime. I cannot see a trend like if it is the chosen cycle and load (e.g. towels on a fast spin). It just seems to work fine for a while, then suddenly cough and belch water when the mood is right.
At first I thought it was water leaking out the door, but it is certainly coming out of the conditioner dispenser.
I do have another thought…that it could be trying to flush the softner and the pipe is getting blocked somehow due to some force building because of the spinning…and preventing the fresh water from draining out the dispenser pipe? However the water leaking out is pretty clean and not full of softner.Like I said, I don’t understand washing machines…but this one is going to get dismantled if I have to. Perhaps then I will understand them better. Washing machines shouldn’t be so complicated…where is the “clean my clothes” setting?
Thanks for the help so far…

kwatt,
Thanks for the quick reply. Up until recently it has only been a bit of water (which could have been in the pipe), but recently it is dispensing what must have been a couple of litres onto the kitchen floor when going wrong.
It appears to be spinning okay, nothing too unbalanced. Anything else I should be looking out for?
