Apologies for lack of response… finally got back to looking at it today. I thought I saw something a bit odd at the very back of the drum. but realised that even if I could identify it, there was very little chance of getting out. So… tried putting it all back together and running a short cycle with some vinegar, and lo and behold, the noise seems to have resolved itself.

Perhaps it was just scale all along ? Anyway, thanks for all your suggestions.

USB endoscope arrived today – one day ahead of the estimated delivery window. Fascinating poking around inside the drum (but no result yet).

Okay, got the drawer and inlet detached… but nothing there 🙁

At least it’s running out of places to hide !

I guess I’ll have to wait for that endoscope thing to arrive.

We don’t really do any regular descaling or anything. Wondering if it could just be some limescale mixed up with some fluff, or something. (There was a lot of that around the heating element.) There is some crud around the front edge of the outer drum. If nothing turns up, maybe I’ll just reassemble it and see if a descale changes anything…

Yeah, I’ve been trying that, but hard to convince myself exactly where the noise is coming from. I can just about convince myself it’s in the vicinity of the soap filler. I was wondering if using a small microphone might make it easier to locate the sound.

I assume there’s not really many recesses in the outer drum in which something could lodge ? So it ought to be pulled round by the rotation of the inner drum and appear in the heater recess.

OH assures me no bra wires are missing 😉

No, I’d say the gap remains pretty uniform as the drum is turned.

I had noticed previously, when probing through the holes in the inner drum, that the gap between the two is much smaller at the back than the front. I guess the back half of the outer tub is a slightly smaller diameter. But it seemed pretty uniform all the way around.
