Well at least it’s now consistent.
Just did a quick wash and it did the same: never drained and the cycle never stopped. In your very first post you said you suspected the timer control and I think we have a winner. A quick skim through the shop section shows that Neff Dishwasher Timers & Control Modules prices range, very broadly, from £50-£100. Assuming the timer for my unit is still available, is it a big job to fix/replace the timer unit?
Thanks as ever for your advice.

Sorry to be a pain but the damn thing’s behaviour has changed :bang:
This time it never drained – the water stayed soapy and the pump never engaged.
In the end I aborted the cycle and then, to rinse it out, started a quick wash (without detergent) for a few minutes then aborted that as well. Will try the quick wash tomorrow night (Monday) and let you know how I get on.
Thanks for sticking with this saga…

Not exactly, I’d say the fill/drain cycle at the end when it seems to get stuck is of the order, I’d guesstimate, of a minute or two with some rotor movement in between.
The couple of cycles I were around for were thus:
– fill with cold water
– water heats up (gets very hot, unit is full of steam), rotors turn
– drain (quite quick but in a few shortish pump bursts, not one continuous run).I can at least still use the appliance, albeit I have to time when I abort so it’s full of hot water!
Hope this helps. I could take a video of the unit then you’d be able to hear the noise it makes? Not sure if this forum would let me upload it tho’.
Next time I use it I’ll pay close attention at the end and time things.
Thanks for your continuing help and patience!DIYdisaster

Hi again,
Update
My bad – having sat through a complete cycle I’ve changed my mind and would say that yes, it is repeatedly filling up, heating up the water, draining it and then starting over.Apologies!

Hi Martin,
No, I don’t think it’s doing that – but I’ve never sat by it through a whole cycle. After the last wash the dishes, though clean, seemed a bit greasy or soapy so I’m guessing that by aborting the cycle it never got to properly rinse them. Or it might just be me being a bit too eager and should’ve left it a bit longer!
On reflection I think that maybe the rotors are active when it reaches the point where it should finish. Next time I’ll try and pay more attention – and run a rinse cycle at the end and see what that does (never used the rinse cycle!).
Also, when I do abort the cycle there doesn’t seem to be much by way of soap suds in the water – I’ll try and remember to see if the water is soapy or not next time. The detergent tablet gets released OK during the wash cycle.
When I do abort the pump doesn’t seem to have much draining to do, though there is water in the unit. It kicks in several times for a very brief time (a few seconds) then engages for a slightly longer time then the cycle ends.
There’s no water sloshing around when I open it up when the cycle’s finished. My overall impression is that it seems to be able to heat the water OK and do the bulk of the wash cycle OK. Also, the water did heat up after I checked last time and the manual says the hot wash ends with a hot rinse to dry the dishes.
My guess (and it is a guess!) is that it doesn’t get to complete the final rinse. As ever, thanks for your time, much appreciated.

Hi Martin,
Thanks for taking the trouble. Just ran a hot (65 deg C) wash and decided if it didn’t stop after the correct time that I’d abort.
When I first checked it about 5 minutes before it should end the water was barely lukewarm (around body temperature) but the dishes etc. looked clean.
Luckily I left it running and yes, the water got very hot shortly thereafter – but I don’t know if it was my pausing the cycle that made it do this?So yes, it does heat the water and I suspect it probably goes through the wash cycle OK and gets confused right at the end of the wash … maybe.
If it helps, the details on the door are:
