Thanks for the tip that the container might be at fault so will invistigate costs to repair or fix but in the meantime I will start using tablets that have everything in them I think and see how they work

I’ve checked the cap and it’s not broken, the seal looks fine but it does have short threads, only two that go half way round the cap, they don’t join and it does not close tight.

thanks for your response but it’s the crockery and clutlery that’s got the film on it too. Also the dishwasher is using 2kg of salt per wash which I think is the problem but I don’t know how to fix it.
