They each turned up in a small white van with Bosch on the sides, they weren’t from Curry’s.

In fact the Curry’s telephone system too is a bit of a pain. Using the “Press 1/2/3/4” and voice recognition system, as soon as you mention the word “Bosch” their system automatically connects you to Bosch service department. So to complain to Curry’s about a Bosch washing machine, you have to make liberal use of the hash tag button on your phone, to be able to speak to a “real person,” at Curry’s.

The situation with this machine has been quite enlightening.
I’ve learned, certainly for this area, the Bosch service engineers work either 7.00am to 2.00 pm. Or 8.00am to 3.00pm. Such early calls seem a bit anti-social. Though to be fair the two visits we have received were at 10.00am and 11.00am.Though were expected to ready for the visit several hours before they came. The visit on Saturday never materialised, it was originally scheduled for the following Tuesday, with a promise that we’d be told if they could come earlier. We received a phone call on Friday to say they’d call between 7.00am and 2.00pm on Saturday, I phoned at 1.45pm on Saturday asking where was the engineer, to be told they had no record of the appointment, so it was re-arranged for the Monday!

It would appear that they aren’t given training on new models, as the first engineer wanted to see the instruction book and the second admitted he’d not seen this machine before.

The second guy did a few “stops and starts” as did the first, but said he could find no fault. I understood he couldn’t wait an hour whilst it did a “proper load,” with washing, to see if the fault would manifest itself.

I then started to show him on my laptop the six videos I’d made over a few days of each time it wouldn’t work after completing a full load. He agreed there was “something not right” with the machine. His suggestion was another visit if it wasn’t still working after he left. Really!

I’d had enough by then and phoned Curry’s, they said they’d look at the report the following day when they received it from Bosch and phone me back. This they did and told me the engineer’s report said, “No fault found.” I asked them “Did he say he’d seen the videos I’d made of it not working when it should?”

The very pleasant young lady said, “There’s no mention of that in the report.”

I said, “Of course there isn’t, that would be an admission that there was a fault but he couldn’t fix it!”

At first she gave me the, “all we can do is book another service call.”
I told her it wasn’t, I wasn’t having it and I wanted the machine exchanging.
After “a consultation with her manager,” this was agreed and I was told the next phone call I got would be to arrange the date of the exchange.

Again to be fair, Curry’s have been quite reasonable over this situation, which of course they’re obliged to be under the Sale of Goods Act and their own terms and conditions. A few decades ago this wasn’t always the case when buying items from Curry’s. Earlier in the year I bought a Humax HDR which proved noisy and I took it back a week later and they changed it without a murmur.

I’m very disappointed with Bosch, it seems everything is run on a shoestring. Their service department is all “press one, press two, we’re very busy, call back or go on line, we’ll answer you in ten minutes (or whatever)” but sometimes cut you off after you’ve been hanging on that time.

I put a detailed report in an e-mail to Currys and received a quick response containing an apology and a confirmation that the machine is to be exchanged.
(best to have it all in writing).

In conclusion I’d say that this is an excellent machine and washes well…when it works!

It’d be quite an upheaval to change the machine, I’m willing to give them a chance to fix it. They could change it for another, but what’s the chance of that one having the same faut?
Up until now we’ve been quite happy with Bosch appliances having a fridge freezer and a dishwasher of that make for ten years. Our Worcester/Bosch central heating boiler is thirteen years-old and they’ve all been trouble free.

Thanks for that, I suspected as much. It’s only a week old, the engineer is coming for a second time tomorrow.
The fault wouldn’t manifest itself on Tuesday when he came.

So I’ve videoed it happening three or four times on different days since and I’ll show him when he arrives.
