ParticipantRe: A new American or two separates
Andrew – thank you for the tip about Dixon’s. I’ve actually got a f/f now which the wife is happy with so I’m off the shopping hook at least for now. Thanks to all for your advice. Cheers, dwelly

Ken – that’s a very thorough review of the market and many thanks for taking the time to do that. As Quickwash said, “you know” what’s out there so that in itself gives me more confidence about our decision.
I’ll have another look this weekend, speak with my wife and decide which one of the options is most palatable within our budget. I know she won’t spend in the £2k region so it will be a compromise regardless.
You mention water filters quite a few times. Sorry about my ignorance of these things but why is there such a huge variation between different brands? Is it just down to poor quality in certain brands?

Hopefully there’s some method to my madness, Quickwash. I get her the machine she wants this time and when I fancy something in the future I’ll remind her of this situation..! 🙂 Sounds good in theory anyway…!

Thanks for that Quickwash. I’d be happy getting everything separate but “she who has to be obeyed” doesn’t see it that way… 🙂 I’ll keep looking…

ParticipantRe: A new American or two separates
Quickwash said there are “fridges that dispense cold water too” – but finding them isn’t so easy by the look of things.
Martin – the “machine” – whether it’s an American or two separates – will be situated close to our cold water supply and a plumber friend has already told us how it will be connected.
My biggest worry and immediate task is to find something that satisfies the wife’s criteria so any advice on a suitable American f/f or two separates would be much appreciated.

Don and Quickwash – thank you both for your answers.
I’m sorry about the confusion and asking a similar question elsewhere. I didn’t know until last night this General Appliance forum is the better place for that type of question.
I checked the Bosch range suggested Don but the one thing that’s missing is the ice-cold water function.
Persuading my wife to accept a separate fridge and freezer combo that doesn’t have that ice-cold water function might be quite difficult…

Sorry, is this an error or a response to my question… 😕

ParticipantRe: “Just buy one…”
I get a feeling from other forum posters that the quality of the Whirlpool (Maytag / Admiral) American f/f products isn’t that much better than the Samsung’s and LGs. Is that fair? Is there any quality out there around the £1000 mark?

ParticipantRe: “Just buy one…”
Thanks but can’t seem to find any Admiral products, old or new, anywhere.

ParticipantRe: Value on a budget of £800
Thanks again, K. I guess this was just a bad time for our machine to break down 🙂 I’ve not given up on things just yet but I’ll have to be very persuasive to placate my wife.
I realise the weather will be worse in some places than others but I wonder if all retailers are having the same problems with their deliveries. Does anyone know?

It seems timdowning isn’t very sympathetic to people who actually want to support small independent firms but the reality is I’m not expecting miracles and could have gone to a multinational like most others but chose not to. The reality also is that the distribution company hasn’t fulfilled its side of the purchase process and the w/m is now scheduled to arrive 11 days after ordering. Maybe some of you might think 11 days is OK to wait – personally I don’t.
KWatt – thanks for your message and for being straightforward with me about the problems of distribution. You’ve heard some of the story behind this; you may even have read my emails to your colleague David. He was very courteous and explained the situation with Sprint but ultimately couldn’t do anything either as the stock is all elsewhere.
For me, that’s the most frustrating thing as I had entered into an agreement with ISE in the full expectation that my order would be fulfilled according to your terms of Shipping. I’d still have gone ahead even if the website had said at the outset you were experiencing difficulties with distribution due to the weather but the fact is there was nothing on the website about delays or other problems. I think it was reasonable to expect delivery within a day or two, perhaps even three – but certainly not in 11.. !!! I hope you will be speaking with the directors of the distribution company next week and perhaps putting a note for customers via the website about potential delays. Good luck.

Don – do you know how to get hold of one of the directors for ISE? Their distribution company has made a total mess of my order and I’m very close to pulling the plug on the AW23 and going away forever unless I can get hold of a director to do something about the situation in the next 24 hours….not a happy customer right now….

Thanks Don. I’ve ordered the ISE AW23 and will decide on tumble dryer later.
Do you know who I can contact to find out about delivery times from ISE? The email confirmation didn’t give me any contact details or tell me anything about possible dates or times and I really need to know.
cheers

ParticipantRe: Value on a budget of £800
Thanks Don. On other threads you’ve given the thumbs up to a Bosch WAE24364GB and a Siemens WM14E162GB. How do they compare or contrast to the ISE AW23?
Also, do you have any preferences for tumble dryer brands/makes?

ParticipantRe: Quality machines – how much…?
Interesting article and loads of useful knowledge. Like many others I’m really pleased to have found this forum….
Going back to my original post, I now have a decision to make – repair or replace. How cost effective will the repair of a 12 year old AEG be? If the call-out engineer tells me I need a new pcb, according to your spare parts section this will cost over £100. Can AEG Lavamats pcbs or control units be picked up second hand? On the other hand, if I go for a new machine, I’ll be paying £400-500 minimum but at least it should last me another 8-10 years. Anyone had this dilemma before and how did you weigh up the pros and cons?
