    Thanks Phidom.

    Took your advice and got an engineer out. Brushes worn out as you suggested. Also got him to change hot water hose as it was weeping a bit.
    Total cost including parts and labour was £61 which I did not think was bad. He had to remove the motor to change the brushes. I probably could have done it myself but you never know what may go wrong!
