ParticipantRe: Miele G4203i – wet inside after program finished
OK, thanks, that’s reassuring, although it does mean I have to empty it every time and dry the interior with a towel which is more work than I expected.
I had a closer look and realised that actually the floor and all panels on the interior are fairly wet, and remain wet for days/indefinitely. The only area that’s dry is on the left hand panel around and above the hole at the bottom. Is that some sort of vent or fan?

Hi Dave, thanks very much for the reply. Based on what you’re saying it may not be a problem with the drain hose then and may just be normal behaviour, but it’s unusual to me as my last Ignis Dishwasher was bone dry after a wash program.
The dishes are more or less dry and there’s no standing water on the floor of the cabinet. It’s only the rear panel of the cabinet and right-hand panel that are covered in water. I’ve taken some pics this afternoon after running the ECO program last night (the results are similar when running the Gentle/Glass program and also the Auto wash). So basically, the left-hand side is dry, the floor is dry, the rear panel and right-hand panels are fairly wet:
Rear and floor

Right-hand side

Left-hand side

What do you think?

Well, I’ve ended up with a new Miele G4203i and had a plumber come and install it. Having just run my first cycle I’m happy with it but notice that at the end it was still slightly wet inside. ie, there were drops of water on the inside panels, a few little drops here and there on the cutlery and a pool of water sitting on on an upside-down bowl. Not knowing what to expect I’m just wondering if this is about normal or if I should expect it to be bone dry if slightly humid straight after a cycle? I ask because in the manual it states:
Water remains in the
wash cabinet at the end
of a programme. Before rectifying the problem:
? Switch the dishwasher off with the ? button. The filter combination in the wash cabinet is clogged.
? Clean the filter combination (see “Cleaning and
care, Cleaning the filters”).The drain pump or non-return valve may be blocked.
? Clean the drain pump or the non-return valve (see
“Maintenance”).The drain hose is kinked.
? Remove any kink from the drain hose.Given that this is new I’m guessing the likely issue is a kink in the drain hose? However given that it took about 3 hours to install this dishwasher the last thing I want to do it pull it all out again on my own and check so I’m wondering if a little water is actual just normal.

Thanks for the reply. That’s a fair question. I want the retailer to deliver and fit the dishwasher since I won’t be able to do it alone. One supplier said they would deliver and fit, but it wouldn’t be a full installation, just fitting of pipes, etc. The other retailer doesn’t do install, but I’ve spoken to a couple of plumbers who say they could do that for £50 – £65 once delivered. If there is the possibility of complications during installation I would rather have a dedicated fitter than just the delivery driver.

Thank you for all your help. Just to update, I’ve ordered a Neff S41M63N1GB Dishwasher, but the reviews online say that installation is a bit perplexing. Poor instructions, and also the inlet pipe is bulky and difficult to feed, or too big to connect. Do you know if these are genuine concerns with this product, or Neff in general?
I need to ask because the delivery driver has said he’ll only install and re-connect the pipes. Anything more complicated and they won’t touch it. But that could leave me severely in the lurch! Is there anything I can do to prepare for this in advance, or pre-order some kind of adapter to make sure they don’t go away with the excuse that the job was too difficult? Thank you again!

Hi again, quick follow up question. You recommended the Hotpoint LSB5B019 as a possible replacement. I need to order something tomorrow, but I’m not seeing a whole lot of love for hotpoint in general. Would you say this was a reliable machine and worth investing in for trouble-free use?
Another one I’ve looked at is a Neff S42M69N0GB, but it’s supposed to be ‘Extra Height, at around 86cm. Is this likely to fit under a standard height worktop?

Ahh, just getting up to speed with your terminology – so basically, the fully integrated ones have a completely flush front panel, and the one I’m after is ‘semi-integrated’ i.e. including space for a control panel at the front? I think that Bosch SMI50C15GB looks roughly comparable wit something like a 57.5cm panel recess, but it’s very difficult to get these measurements because they only provide the overall height in the spec sheets.

Thanks Don, that’s very helpful. I know there are lot’s of great integrated and freestanding dishwashers around, but are you suggesting that the models listed will have the same door panel dimensions as the Ignis one I’m replacing? It’s 57cm high x 59.5cm wide. If so, that would make life very easy.
The kitchen company that designed and fitted the units in 2002 just went into liquidation last week, believe it or not!! Otherwise I would have called them and enquired about ordering a replacement door. Failing either of these options I’ll have to just buy a free-standing dishwasher instead (which would be cheaper anyway), but wanted to explore the possibility of direct replacement first. Thanks again!

ParticipantGreg, many thanks for your reply. That was very very helpful and it sounds like a pretty logical diagnosis. I’ve already fired off a request form for an engineer, but if your quote is accurate I won’t have to think long or hard before I pop down to my local Currys for a new fridge. I suppose at 20 years I’ve had a good innings. I’d love to keep the current one though as newer fridges don’t seem to be any better (and perhaps worse if anything) and the thought of disposing of toxic appliences is a bit of a strain on my green sensibilities. thanks again for your help 🙂
