Re: Door Hinge / Spring Problems, Whirlpool DW621/2BR

Just an update on this problem…..

UK White Goods had a replacement RH Spring connector in stock and for anybody else who needs to replace one of these, I thought a few notes might be helpful as the job is not too straight-rorward.

First of all, disconnect and isolate the power. Mine is a semi-built in DW, so remove the outer door by undoing 4 screws, and loosening the screws that secure the control panel. It is not necessary to remove this. The door panel removes downwards. Now undo the 6 screws securing the kick-plate and remove. With door closed, it should be possible to see the broken connector and spring on the RHS in the bottom.

At this point it should be clear that access to replace the spring connector is difficult, so I pulled the machine out so that I could get access to the rear and there I unlooped the spring.

I then assembled the spring to the new connector and, to prevent it slipping off, I secured it with a bit of insulation tape. I then looped a bit of stiff wire to the back end of the spring and secured that with a bit of insulation tape. Working from the front with the door closed, I pushed the wire through and out of the back of the machine, and then looped the new connector to the hinge. Keeping everything tight, I then pulled the wire with the spring attached through the back of the machine and secured it. A word of warning, though, watch your fingers as the spring is strong and if it lets go it could be nasty.

Now disconnect the loop of wire, reassemble and the jobs done!

Hope this helps anybody else with a similar problem.

Thanks, John, Looks like it might have to be a new DW after all! I had been hopeful of a few more years. Anyway will have a look tomorrow and report back.

Hi, Thanks for that, but it doesn’t look like the side panels detach on this one and I simply wanted to confirm that the way in to do the hinges was through the lower kick plates. Certainly from an on-line video, the springs are done this way.

    Thanks,
