Got the new capacitor yesterday, whacked it in and it worked! A massive thanks to all of you for your advice and making me look good in front of her indoors. 😀

Gents, appreciate the detailed responses. The noise is like a grinding/whirring noise…like the machine is struggling to turn. I’m going to take a punt on the starter capacitor at first.

OK I’ve got the machine out, top off and I see two capacitors one in right back corner and another one next to it. I’m guessing the starter capacitor is the one that says 20uF ICAR Ecofill MLR25PRL and has 4 connectors? The other one has a circuit diagram on it and lots of numbers including 0.47uf and 5 connectors.

I’ve had a look and the closest I could find was this universal capacitor:

Will this do? If not, where else could I source from?
