Thanks again Bob. I took her shopping this afternoon to order a new fridge – Another Beko, so hope that it fares better than the last one. Asking if they would remove the old fridge, we were told that would cost another £20. So we declined that offer.

Hi Bob, thanks for your reply; quite right, the repairman came to the same conclusion, although my neighbour says that he did remove and test the relay, which was found to be OK. Seems that he too had difficulty in removing it. Being of Turkish manufacture and no longer in production, it may be of interest to someone on ebay, but I haven’t enough hours in the day to advertise it. I’m sorry that she had to get a third party involved, as it cost her £50 to come to the same conclusion. — It’s a case of too many cooks. Thinking logically if the thermistor was O/C there would be nothing on the start coil anyway to even run a few seconds. I would have liked to have tested the capacitor, as it might run a bit with that S/C or is that a silly think? Folkie

I phoned my neighbour this morning, to go and test the capacitor, but she tells me that another friend of hers has contacted a repair chap to come to her home this afternoon. The problem is that he has a £50 call-out fee, so I said to her that if he can’t fix it, it’s £50 on top of what a new fridge is going to cost. The relay in question was made in Turkey, and is no longer in production, so if it was faulty I would have had to use a substitute anyway. I’ll leave it, and post here what the outcome is if any? Hi Dave,
Thank’s for your quick reply. I looked at that slot, but there was nothing obvious on the top side, I’ve not checked the bottom slot, so may do that tomorrow if I get the time to go round to my neighbours house then. I looked with a mirror and there is a horizontal slot in the back of the bracket, and it does locate in there, but that should not stop it pulling forward.
The enclosed picture is that of a similar compressor that I took off of the web. Folkie -
