Bingo — it works! Thanks enormously guys for all your help. That last bit of intelligence about loosening the bolt and removing the fan was crucial. In my innocence I had been led astray by iadom’s exploded view which to my eye seemed to have the belt going round the plastic pulley! Martin’s final diagram also helped. Even my wife is happy! The intro to my manual will start “Dont start this job unless you have a degree in engineering…” or access to the UK Whitegoods tumbler dryer forum 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀

Martin, from your diagram I don’t see how you get the belt round the drive below the pulley!

Thankyou Martin, that is clearer, and as you will see from my downsized photo I have got it wrong, so tomorrow I’ll try again

Tks, thought I had followed iadom’s exploded view of the pulley. I have a photo but the site says the attachment is too big for this site, so I’ve asked your main admin email for an email address where I can email a downsized attachment — unless there is a way to downsize an attachment here.

Further thought — is there an elasticated belt that will do the trick?

03 Belt also TOO BIG! You wont believe it, put it all (bar back and front) back together and re-tensioned pulley, but it is about 4cm too long. Any ideas or is time to cave in to my wife’s demands for a new one!

Perhaps I ought to have bought TWO POL-03 belts!

It was half a joke — the manual would be for my children!

Indeed iadom, only when I got the back off did I discover the ‘small nuts’ you referred to which were retaining the rods. I think I shall write a manual how to replace the belt on this model!! regards

A few hours later…having taken off the back, and unscrewed the tiny nuts retaining the wire stay at mid height, THAT did the trick! But as you both rightly suggested this belt is TOO LONG! So I shall order POL 03 but now I know how to! Thanks for all the help

Well we’ve got the belt past the two side bits of the front drum support — but the bottom bit is impossibly tight. Any ideas? (My wife — who wanted a new dryer — said no man could have fitted a new belt to this model — the design is too complicated, she says!!)

Yes iadom, I’ve got them both undone, and we (my wife and I) are about to try Martin’s latest advice, namely to slide the belt round the still closed part of the drum opening. It is a tight fit even with the gap opened at the top

Thankyou Martin. Got some way but cannot seem to reveal the small gap at the bottom, and now seem to be bending the front panel out of shape! Is there any sense loosening the bottom screws a bit — or undoing the door springs?

ParticipantRe: 75/400 Creda tumble dryer (bought 1978)
OK Martin belt arrived today. I’ve undone the nuts holding the cross struts to the front casing. There are 3 more nuts at the bottom of the front casing — do I have to remove them to get the front casing eased away from the drum? Simple it aint!

Thanks iadom, as I said this website’s shop said to get the POL 08. If it is wrong I SHALL EXCHANGE IT FOR THE 03, as Martin hs now suggested I APPRECIATE THE EXPLODED VIEW. REGARDS
