    Hi Bryan,

It was powdery snow, quite soft, so it will be a matter of letting it run and see if it recurs, if it does, then as you say could be the defrost heater or thermal fuse, as I know where they are…., if not then I could have got away with it for now.

It’s been running for 24 hours now, the red light has gone off and it’s freezing quite well, so it’s fingers crossed, if it’s OK after a week or so great, but I will have to keep an eye on it.

    Phil.

    Hi Guys,

After dragging the beast out from it’s lair, I inspected the condenser pipework, no visible signs of corrosion, also the hoses, I read somewhere on the net that a perished hose had caused a similar problem, no problems there.

So I turned my attention to the inside and found that after a bit of fiddling and cursing I could get the cover off the evaporator thingy (technical terminology there)and was faced with a fullscale replica of the snows of the Antartic. The abscence of any visible fan was worrying to say the least at first, so I drew my trusty snow and ice dispersal machine to full revs and attacked. Ok, OK I used the wife’s hairdryer on full blast.

After many er minutes I managed to free the evaporator thingy from it’s icy tomb and located the fan which actually started to turn with the air from the hairdryer, so I proceeded to try and work out how on earth the bit of plastic and all its clips fitted back on and stayed there. Thought the wife might notice if I left it off, you know what women are like.

So then came the the big moment, turning the power back on, and …… nothing, no hum, no whirring, not even a loud bang, you know the type that lets you know that you really have bolognaised it up and should have called somebody in.

So despondantly I started to push the now dead beast back into it’s lair, when, it couldn’t be, could it, yes it is, a hum from somewhere inside the beast, it is alive!

I then went back over the various ancient texts on this site to try and find out why the beast was so iced up and the prophets within sayeth that the door seals could be knac….. damaged. But the door seals were good, then the wife under the application of thumbscrews and the rack etc admitted that she might, note the word might, have left the door open a while back.

I know you will find it extremely hard to believe that I am not an engineer versed in the dark arts of domestic appliance repair from my obvious skills related here, but it really was the assistance of you guys that saved the day.

So far the beast is still sat in it’s lair, quietly freezing away, all seems back to normal,

    Thanks guys,

    Phil.
