I cleaned the water level indicator with hot soapy water and washing up brush. I had to do it from the sump as I couldn’t get the component out due to the water heater in the way. I didn’t really want to dismantle that!
I could hear the microswitch clicking away as I cleaned it, so I imagine it’s moving now. This did not fix the problem.
I then fetched off the left side panel this morning at 7am (I couldn’t sleep, thinking about all the washing up I might have to do!). I disconnected the connector to the flow meter. It looked clean, but I gave it a going over. I also cleaned the tabs on the mini PCB. Reconnected and tried a rinse.
Drain, drain, drain – WATER! Ah HA! It’s working!
I shone the torch at the water wheel and I could see it start and stop spining with the water flow.
I did notice a spot of rust on the lower support, underneath the water wheel. I did find moisture on my fingers from the wheel area. I wonder if this is condensation and not a leak?
So, tonight, when I get home from work I will run a normal wash a see if it will run normally.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Note – my hands are cut to hell. If you don’t like drawing blood for whatever reason then wear some protection on your hands. A lot of stuff in the base of my Whirlpool dishwasher has very sharp edges.

Hi,
Thanks for your help.
Do I need to remove the black grid to clean the switch? If so, can you tell me how?
I did think that water flowed through that black grid, but from your words, I now thinking that water does not flow through the black grid, it is simply reading the water level – right?
I’m not sure which component the flow meter is. Where is the connector for the flow meter?
When you say clean the pcb contacts, do you mean at the pcb main board or the connector points as the component itself?
If it’s the at the pcb, which connector is it?
Thanks, thanks for your help – I really appreciate it.
I was so chuffed to have hot water last night, and then gutted with this next issue.

Hi Guys,
The NTC arrived yesterday. I fitted it tonight and we have hot water!
I ran a 40c short wash and we had steam and everything – it was amazing! It ran through whole wash and stopped as expected.
Thanks for your help.
I then put all the bits back on the dishwasher and pushed it back in to its home.
PROBLEM!
I switched it back on and it’s draining for about 1 min, then beeping and giving me an error code of 6 flashes of the LED. It will not run any programs.
😥
I saw this error code about a week ago, but it just disappeared. I see that you said it was to do with water level control.
Can you suggest how I solve this new issue?
Thanks,
Giles.

I’ll let you know how it goes!
Any hints or tips for fitting it?
Thanks for your help.

Yep – multi-meter is good.

ParticipantRe: Whirlpool ADG7540/1 Not Heating Water
I poured very hot water in to the dishwasher last night and watched the NTC resistance on the multi-meter.
Cold resistance on the NTC started at 5.26k ohms, after I added the hot water the resistance steadily fell to 4.76k ohms, then it suddenly jumped to 12 k ohms and steadily fell to 11.55k ohms, then started climbing all the way up to 15k ohms, then it jumped to 5.3k ohms again and remained there.
Perhaps the NTC is faulty and therefore telling the PCB not to provide power to thewater heater.
I ran a short 40c wash, but again, no hot water was produced.
I’m reluctant to buy a £150 pcb, if it’s actually the NTC that is at fault.
What are your thoughts Penguin? Thanks for your help BTW – I really appreciate it.

I’ve just measured the AC Volts of the Water Heater connector during a short 40c wash.
It remained at 0.003v throughout.
I dug out the PCB to see if I could see any thing that might have blown, but it all looks clean.
Any suggestions? New PCB?

The NTC connector at the main PCB is showing electrical resistance of 5.27k ohms. Does any one know if that’s correct?
Thanks.

Hi,
The water heater shows resistance of 24.6k ohms.
What do you suggest I do next?
Thanks,
Giles.

Thanks for your response.
Later last night, after I’d re-powered the dishwasher, it started up as normal. No error code.
I selected the short, 40c, wash. It ran through the wash, but water remained cold throughout.
I will check the heater resistance tonight and report back! Any other checks I should do?
Thanks!
