nomadPaul, you are a Hero indeed!

Put in a load of wet towels and off it went!

To add more to the story, the machine stopped working with the symptoms described. Removing the lower front plastic facia revealed that the condenser box held in by the blue clips was totally blocked with baked hard fluff, and that the duct that channels air from the drum down to it was full too, covering a sensor of some type. I cleaned it all, re-assembled it and switched it back on, empty. No joy, same story as before. I didn’t think to try it with wet washing, because I overlooked the fact it is a sensor type drier. The blindingly obvious, but not to me.

So nomadPaul, my heartfelt thanks, and may I nominate you for the Domestic Appliance Service medal for your accurate diagnosis. My machine lives to Dry another Day.
    Many, many thanks

Further to the above, perhaps a better description of the problem will aid diagnosis. When switched on with any programme other than the 30 minute warm the drum makes 5×5 second rotations each in an opposite direction. There is a short pause, the the Anti crease/End light illuminates and the drum rotates for 5 seconds then stops for good. 30 minute warm cycle starts with same 5×5 second rotations, pauses then continues normally. Is the control module waiting for an input from a component before proceeding?
Any ideas of which component to check and how? Or am I missing the blindingly obvious?

Somebody out there can be a Hero and save this machine from the skip!

    Is it you?
