ParticipantRe: washing machine timer
If the timer motor has failed, these were/are available as a separate part. I’ll have a look into this.
The reason these machines live so long is because they are so simple and have no electronics. The large induction motors seem to go on forever. They don’t seem to rust as badly as other machines of the same age either.
In fact quite a few parts are still available for these machines, but with many pre-Electrolux Zanussi appliances you have to manually convert the old 6 digit Zanussi part number into the newer (current) 11 digit Electrolux part number in order to find them.
I have managed to purchase quite a few parts for my Z9191T using the above method. In fact the later newline (FL812, FL1012 etc), early Jetsystem (FJ1013, ZFL1023 etc) and Electrolux WH series use many of the same parts that the Washcrafts used.

Thanks Penguin. I have since found the technical information for my machine here: and it says it takes an 8uf. I’ll go and order one from the shop.

ParticipantRe: Replacing door seal on Zanussi Jetsystem ZFL1023
Just to update, well I finally got round to fitting this today.
A warning to anyone planning to change these Zanussi seals – it’s a soul destroying job trying to get the gaiter spring back onto the outer tub. I have cut my fingers to shreds and it’s the first time I’ve had cause to swear at a washing machine repeatedly!
Eventually wedging something between the spring in the recess and front panel acted as an extra pair of hands and even then it was still almost impossible to stretch it all the way round.
I can’t help but think there should have been a better way!

Thanks Penguin! Your response is very helpful. I would have been forever wondering how to fit the plastic ring back on. This machine seems to be one of the ‘proper’ well built Zanussis so is well worth spending a bit of money on.
I have the seal already and will fit it when I get chance.

ParticipantRe: HELP! Control board problem on old Zanussi fridge/freez
There are a few parts still available for this Fridge/Freezer, but with all pre-Electrolux Zanussi appliances you have to manually convert the old 6 digit Zanussi part number into the newer (current) 11 digit Electrolux part number.
The parts diagram for model ZF 67/51 can be found here: http://procornerpdf.electrolux.com/Pict … 10/309.PDF
If the part you require is the one labelled ‘632’ then it is still available. Old part number 113486 translates into new part number 50113486000.
Hope this is of some use.

I have done 10 calls today, amongst them one Indesit that was just over 2 years old with the paper thin stainless steel tank ripped apart by a small coin rendering the machine BER.
Another Hotpoint machine with Indesit electronics that had a major module failure at 13 months, referred her back to Indesit who will charge her just under £100 to repair.
Among the other calls that I managed to complete were 3 Hotpoint and 2 Hoover machines. They ranged from 17 to 22 years old. I fixed every single one of them and the highest bill was £50.00. Most of them will still be running when the current rubbish from Indesit is on the tip., but hey, what do I know, I’ve only been in the job 41 years 😉
Jim.
You are quite right, Jim. My Hotpoint 9534 was purchased in May 1989, and I’ve never had a repair bill over £50.00. I intend to keep the machine going for as long as possible.
I laugh when people think 5 years old is retirement age for a washing machine.
My second machine, a Zanussi Washcraft from 1986 has never gone wrong. I’d like to see a modern Zanussi achieve that, although I believe they are still better than Indesit…

ParticipantRe: Suspension kit for Hotpoint 9534
I seem to have solved my problem by applying a liberal amount of grease to the right hand suspension leg. It seems it wasn’t worn out at all, just creaky and in need of an oiling! At least I’ll have the kit just in case it does wear out.
Hopefully I can keep this 9534 going another few years. My other machine, a Zanussi Z9191T from 1986 has never gone wrong and will probably outlive the Hotpoint!
Thanks for the help,
Tom.

Thanks for the help Penguin!
Being a ‘real’ Hotpoint means I usually find the 9534 nice and easy to work on. The same cannot be said for the new nasty Indesit based stuff.

Nothing wrong with the old Hoover Logics, a heck of alot better made than anything Hoover churns out these days.

ParticipantRe: zanussi FJ1033 washing machine
I’ve sent Lintin a copy of my P6000 series manual, so hopefully they should be sorted.
Now if only I could find a manual for my beloved Z9191T, alas, Distriparts don’t seem to have one!

ParticipantRe: Zanussi Z9191T door seal replacement
Well it’s taken me about 20 minutes. It was alot easier than I dared hope for! I wedged an object between the weight and seal to hold the spring in place at the top and managed to get it all the way round the tub without difficulty. Makes you wonder why Electrolux altered the design on the later ones!
Just testing it for leaks now on a rinse and it’s running just as well as it did 22 years ago. The likes of Indesit should be ashamed of themselves with the rubbish they churn out these days.
Many thanks for the advice, Clive.

Thanks Clive. I’ll give it a go, the new seal arrived this morning and I’m feeling quite patient today!
I’ll let you know how it goes.

ParticipantRe: Hotpoint 9534W inner drum part HPT168499
I am lucky to live where I do, but i’m unlucky in that I find myself without a car at present! £35.00 is an excellent price, and I would be prepared to pay double that if there was any way it could be sent. It’s obviously quite a big, bulky item but I’d be willing to pay the cost of a courier to save my 9534 from the scrap.
Let me know, failing that I guess I could try and carry it on the train!
Thanks again,
