Its interesting that Zanussi wanted you to have your 4th machine repaired because I got fed up with getting new machines that were faulty and actually wanted ours repaired so that at least we had a working machine, the trouble is the engineer could NOT repair it because he simply could not find out what the fault was even though he saw the fault occur for himself and acknowledged that it should not happen, the ONLY option is to replace (or refund).

But that doesn’t mean that we should have to pay £480+ for shoddy goods that simply do not work or do the job they are intended to do.
I do understand what you are saying and maybe i’m wrong here, but also at the same time surely new technology is often cheaper, for example, an electronic timer with its much cheaper electronic components must be much cheaper to build (and should be more reliable) than the older mechanical timers.May 22, 2007 at 1:54 pm in reply to: Zanussi ZWD1662W & AEG Lavamat Turbo 16830 dryer problem #214041Iain001

Hmm, something must be done about this, I have just come off the phone to comets where I bought mine from who just can’t believe it. Apart from this issue the machine is quite good, but I can’t put up with this and am thinking about trying a Bosch, although I will lose the spin speed, the wash capacity and the drying capacity I so desperately need.
Why should we put up with this eh, we pay enough of our hard earned money for these products and at the end of the day it is our money which keeps these poeple in jobs, they really need to listen to their customers.May 22, 2007 at 1:48 pm in reply to: Any comments on the Bosch WVT 1260 Exxcel 1200 Washer dryer? #214518Iain001

Unfortunately I have no choice, space is zero in our kitchen,….and the rest of the house too. for the last 6 years I have had a hoover WDM150 which was an absolutely superb machine, reliable, good washing and drying etc. but now its time for a replacement and I just cannot find anything that works properly.

Out of interest, where did you purchase your machine from?, and also what part of the UK do you live in?

I wonder just how many poeple out there really do have this problem but don’t know about it, after all most poeple would set the time then walk away and leave it, and if it isnt dry when they return, just put it on again for a short while (as if anything else is possible with these machines). After all, these machines are meant to be automatic so you would expect that you wouldn’t have to stand over it to switch it back on once it has switched off well before time. I suspect this problem may be much more widespread than it would appear at the moment, probably due to poeple having much better things to do with their time rather than stand over a dryer to make sure its working properly.

Ok, another update. Just to make absolutely sure that this problem was not caused by a water drainage problem I removed the waste hose from the standpipe and held it over a bucket for the duration of the drying cycle, making sure that the hose was withing the correct height limits at all times and that the end of the hose was never in the water at any time. I set the timer for 90 minutes drying time but again after around 30 – 35 minutes it sped through the timer counting down every 20 seconds and then with 28 minutes left on the timer, switched off and jumped straight to zero again, the cycle switched off again after just 46 minutes.

That was just one example i used, it doesn’t matter how little or how much I put in the machine the results are the same, a sheet, a single duvet cover, a pillow case and a pair of childs pyjamas as 1 load do exactly the same.
I have tried everythibg from 1 tea towel to a full load and everything in between.
Nothing works and I just cannot get anything dry without the machine switching off.
All these examples are using timed drying by the way and not sensor drying. It just will not stay switched on for the length of time I set it for no matter what I doMay 21, 2007 at 3:51 pm in reply to: Zanussi ZWD1662W & AEG Lavamat Turbo 16830 dryer problem #214030Iain001

I was wondering that, although it does seem odd especially as I would have thought they would have known about this by now. I have however been told that both the AEG and the Zanussi machine both use the same board, so maybe eh.

Hi,
I have tried 3 different sockets (including out outside of the kitchen) all with the same result. Also in addition, all the electrics have recently been fully tested, updated and retested again. I have also had an electrician come out and retest as a result of this problem but nothing was found.
No, the plug isn’t hot after a drying cycle.May 21, 2007 at 9:17 am in reply to: Zanussi ZWD1662W & AEG Lavamat Turbo 16830 dryer problem #214023Iain001

An update, The pattern has changed and I can now only get a maximum of 30 minutes drying on the first drying cycle before the machine switches off, I don’t know what has changed but I have changed nothing at all.

Thanks for your replies.
in reply to your questions dpm, the machine is in the kitchen, I tried all 3 sensor drying settings on the AEG, (the Zanussi was timed drying only but still switched off before the time set) all with the same results, it switches off after approx 45 minutes and I have tried both cotton and synthetic drying cycles, again with the same result of the machine switching off after around 45 minutes on the first cycle and around 15 minutes for subsequent cycles.
I wasn’t expecting perfect drying in an hour, and that wasn’t the point I was making, it was the fact that even if the machine is set for 1 hour or even 2 hours drying cycle on timed dry it will switch off around 45 minutes of the first drying cycle and then around just 15 minutes for subsequent drying cycles, and as a result I just cannot get anything dry because the machine will not stay switched on long enough.Kentis, the drain hose is fine, there is no siphoning back into the machine and it is not connected to a sink trap, all the drainage is completely clear and there is no anti flow back valve. The engineers we have had out have also checked everything as far as the installation and outside influence and everything is fine. The water pressure has been checked and even the power supply voltage and earthing has been checked, there is absolutely nothing we can find as fas as outside influences go that would effect the machine in any way.
This really is getting very frustrating now.
