There is no point in being rude ‘burns’. I am quite competent to do most repairs (including fitting gas and oil central heating in the past before Corgi/Oftek registration was necessary!!). This disc is a component that I had not had experience of, hence the question. I am fully aware of the function of negative temperature coefficient resistors (NTC’s). I just was’nt certain that this disc was one of them.

    Hi Mike,

Thanks for the reply. The disc looks as new, no sign of overheating etc. The compressor runs initially then stops with a click, as presumably, the adjacent bimetal contact trips. Is this likely to be a motor main winding problem or could a faulty thermostst still cause these symptoms? I am happy to change the thermostat but do not wish ‘to throw good money after bad’ if the whole unit has to be replaced at the end of the day.

Thanks for your help. Regards John
