The machine is purring away like new. The innards were exactly as you described and the fix took a few minutes.

There was some water sloshing in the undertray though … it seemed to come in while the machine was filling again. Any tips would be appreciated, though I feel I’m already enough in your debt.

Now that I know the old tub has life in it, I’ll call a UWG registered engineer to give her a service anyway.

I’ll start by removing the water supply pressure, as you say.

If that fails, I’ll aim to clean out the pipe. But please, although I’ve read all the posts I can find, I’m unsure exactly how to access it. Do I get in through the sump or a side panel? Or do you just mean the hose that goes to the external drain?

Just a thought, can I check that the drain-out is working by tipping a couple of pints of water in the machine with the door open and seeing what happens?
