Hi – the wash cycle completed, including the rinsing. I’m puzzled as to why the inlet valve lets in water for the rinse but not for the wash – does this mean that the problem lies, not with the valve itself, but with the input it is receiving?

Right, OK. I poured a couple of jugs into the machine, set it to 30o wash again and then poured more in as it briefly filled. It went straight on to wash programme. I haven’t waited for the programme to complete but it’s chugging away at the moment. So it looks like a problem with the inlet valve then? I did previously test the terminals on these with a multimeter and got a decent reading and I also poured water into the machine by hand – but only after the valve had shut off.

Thank you, I’ll try that now. I just ran the 30o programme with prewash. The machine filled and ran – I put my hand against the door and it felt warm so I think that it did heat. The drum drained but the draining noise continued for a while after the drum emptied and then I got the beeps and flashing lights.

Hello – thank you for that. I’ll check the prewash as suggested but, since the cold wash programme doesn’t work, I’m not very optimistic.

    Hello again.

Well, I got the control panel off, took out the two circuit boards and examined them. I wasn’t really sure what I was looking for but there were no obvious signs of damage such as blackened or melted parts – they looked OK to me (I took photos). I put it all back together again but (apart from the fact that I forgot to line up the control knob and it now operates at 90 degrees to the pointer!) the machine functioned as before. That is, the prewash, spin, drain and rinse programmes operated normally but the wash cycles shut off the water after a few seconds and then stop.

I wonder if there is anything else I can do to try and pinpoint and perhaps remedy the problem. The machine is mechanically sound and I would be loath to to chuck it out.

Hello – thanks for that, your help is very much appreciated. To answer your question, as far as I could tell, the rinse and prewash appeared to be working normally. The machine was letting in water at intervals, the drum was rotating this way and that, it drained OK and, in the case of the rinse, went straight on to the spin, which also seemed fine.
I’ll do a bit of research tonight to try and see how to get at the control panel and then, hopefully, have a look at it tomorrow. Thanks also for the tip about the PCB, I have it in my watch list now. – I’ll let you know how I get on. Regards, John

Oh dear. Well I’d no idea about washing machines, not allowed near it even to do the washing normally.
Is there anything I can do to rescue it? If someone with that much experience won’t touch it then it doesn’t sound very hopeful.

Hello and thank you for your replies. I tested the coils as suggesed but the cycle did not start.
And errr…yes, I’m afraid that I did tip the machine upside down when I replaced the hose.
