    Hi Bryan,

Thanks for the reply. It is a 300c silicone. It is also very hard to fully degrease the surfaces as the hob seal is still holding on in place on 2 sides. Unless i totally committed to taking the hob off, and removing the old sealant, i doubt i can fix it. But, I don’t want to totally remove it, as i am not sure i have the skills or tools to fix it back! So im in a bit of a catch 22!

I have no contacts here in Northern Ireland such as what you provided. The best i could do would be to pay a callout to a random ‘oven repair man’ who may end up just telling me he can’t fix it. If i knew someone who could ‘definitely’ fix it then i’d pay.

Oh well. Its a sin to scrap the WHOLE oven for such a trivial thing as a glued in bit of rubber.

Im going to try what i have again – only leave it longer. Its a heatproof silicone gasket sealant i used. It’s main function is not as an adhesive, and as there is not a lot of surface area to grab onto i think the silicone alone is unable to withstand the upward pressure. A black grab adhesive would possibly work. I have seen one at screwfix for a tenner.

The silicone would work if the pressure on the hob wasn’t so great. I really need to find a very strong adhesive and sealer in one…

Re: Stand alone oven & hob foam/rubber sealant liting away

I’m in Belfast..! My main fear is that, the hob will lift off entirely, and just be loosely sitting on the oven top and be unusable. I have looked online to try and understand the layout underneath and how it is connected but I haven’t found anything.. The big problem is the strength of the springs. I had to put 7x 2 litre bottle of water on the hob to hold it down, and left it a few hours after using heatproof silicone. The hob just lifted up as soon as the water was lifted off…

Well that didn’t work! The silicone made a seal of sorts, but it couldn’t resist against the springiness , and it just gradually pulled away again..Is there as way to combat the spring ?? It seems excessively strong….

i bought a tube of this stuff. Technicqll Elastic Black High Temperature Silicone. I had bought their shoe repair glue and it was brilliant, and all their products get good recommendations. Here’s hoping.

Thanks.. I couldn’t understand why it seemed so springy! And yes, It would need a reasonable weight on it , whilst whatever sealant I use sets..

Its this rubbery seal ( the line nearest the glass) that is pulling away from the plastic surround on top of the oven..
