    Re: Really loud spinning noise

Ok, I’ve had the top off, and there are no signs of brown water/rust stains either on underside of lid, or back/sides.

There maybe was a tiny bit of water/residue on a floor tile where the back of the machine was, though it’s on an outside wall so could just be condensation. No signs of water inside the machine.

Spinning the drum manually does make the sound (and feels a little “rumbly” if that makes sense). I’ve linked to two more clips for your listening pleasure (one inside the drum, one outside – both with top off and spinning it with my hand).

Is all this academic anyway? Should I just be looking to replace it ASAP?

I’d hate to send something that can be economically fixed to landfill. At the same time I don’t want to drag this out any longer than I need, if in the end (as I strongly uspect) I’m going to have to get a new machine regardless!!!

So if it isn’t too daft a question, is it the bearings that have gone then?

And the advice is to replace the machine now?

    Re: Really loud spinning noise

    * I considered a £650 Miele at the time I bought this for the 5 year warranty (which I realise would still be running) – but figured if I can average 3.3 years for each, I could get 3 cheap Indesits for the same price, which would (hopefully) last me for 10 years.

I realise the effect on landfill is pretty awful with this strategy 🙁

    Re: Really loud spinning noise

Thanks for that. With my limited understanding, I understood it was a risk when I bought it, that more often than not when something goes wrong with these, it’s new machine time*.

I’m just curious as to what exactly has failed. Can you tell what it is, by just listening?

Unfortunately it’s over 5 years, so no chance on the warranty.

    Re: Really loud spinning noise

    Ouch!

Can I ask what exactly lead to that diagnosis?

Given that it only cost £230, it would seem uneconomical to repair (by design I guess).

My gut instinct given that it’s been this way for 6 months is to leave it until it dies, and then fork out for a new one. Is there any problem doing this? Also, if left, how is it likely to die (e.g. get noisier and noisier and then just stop spinning – which I can handle, or burst into flames – which I’d rather avoid!).

    Well I fixed it!

The door mustn’t have been re-attached properly, as I managed to fix this issue by removing the door, and re-attaching it.

    Now the oven works!

(It seems the oven must have a sensor that prevents it from producing heat while the door is open).

Re: Ignis AKL 829 Control Panel Replacement

    Thanks John

The oven doesn’t seem to have a 12nc sticker anywhere on show.

I think for now I’m going to try to use an oven thermometer, and then manually re-mark the control panel.

Unfortunately the online manuals you provided, only seem to show an overall summary of what each knob does, rather than it’s individual settings, so it looks like it’ll take some time, and trial & error.

Failing all that I’ll look to replace the control panel!

They don’t seem to list Tricity Bendix, or is it known as some other manufacturer now?

Re: Disposable Nappy in Washing Machine – Help

Dare I ask where the pump filter is? 😆

Edit: It’s a W_1613 if that makes any difference.

Currently on a 95 deg wash with a cup of salt in replacement of detergent.

Thought I’d follow with a 95 deg wash with detergent, then wash the clothes again (with salt), followed by washing the clothes with detergent.

Then I thought I’d finish with a 95 deg salt and then detergent washed.

Probably being slightly obsessive 😳 , but figure it can’t do any harm (and we haven’t done the regular hot “service” washes that we should have anyway, so this should make up for it – unless anyone says otherwise!)

The simple truth is that it’s a complete minefield………

    I certainly won’t disagree with that! 😆

With regards to the German request, it was due to the washing machine article on this site, which implied that the ones made in Germany were better.

Further to previous posts (really sorry to be such a pain here), my mum has spoken to someone who has (and swears by) a Miele washing machine, and so is now considering one of these as well (along with an increase in budget obviously)

I’ve been on their site, and found what appear to be their budget models (PLEASE correct me if I’m wrong here), the Miele W1613 (£570) and the Miele W562 Prestige Plus 6 (£550).

They seem to be pretty much the same (at least I couldn’t notice any significant difference here), only the W1613 seemed to look a bit nicer, and have a better door for loading clothes???

The site goes on about them being designed to last 20 years (which sounds great if it is in fact true) though I realise spare parts are gonna be expensive.

If looking to pay that much, I suppose I should again really be looking at the ISE5.

I notice it’s out of stock at the moment – any ideas when more stock will be due for the UK?

What are peoples thoughts on the budget Miele’s?

Finally, with so many companies going bump these days, are these 5 (or even 10) year warranties worthless, should either ISE, Miele or Comet go bankrupt?

Sorry to be asking so many questions. It seems such a minefield, and I want to get something reliable for my mother, whilst not spending any more than is necessary.

Thanks again for everyone’s input so far 🙂

Re: Would appreciate washing machine recommendations…

    Thanks for the replies.

I noticed tonight that Comet are selling a BOSCH WAA24162GB for £238, and you can pay a further £110 to increase it to a five year warranty.

    Would anyone care to comment?

The WLX 24162 seems to be a Which? best buy. Does anyone know the difference between the WAA and WLX bosch machines?

I realise the ukwhitegoods articles recommend NOT using large stores like comet, though £350 to get a washing machine with a five year warranty seems pretty good value. If the machine is up to it that is.

The other option I suppose would be to go for the ISE5 for around £500, or some other Miele machine.

Am really not sure, as it’s only going to be a pretty low use machine.
