Hi folks,
Back again in an effort to resolve the problem with my dryer which has been unused since Jan.
I’m not an electrician so wouldn’t know how to test for resistance. I am however mechanically minded so can replace the motor, drain pump, etc. if required.
Unfortunately I don’t know which would be best to replace first ? To recap:
1. The from panel is working and lights up;
2. When I select dry, the panel then flashes ‘clear filter’ after about 20 seconds.
3. The drier drain pump is working fine but the drum will not turn.If it were your dryer would you replace the main motor or something else first ?
I found the attached website and breakdown of parts http://www.buyspares.co.uk/cgi-bin/cata … 038,111471
Could it be the reset thermostat that is faulty ?
Does anybody know of a parts supplier that would let me buy all the parts I need and then return those that are not required for a refund ?
I’ve tried three local firms all of whom came out to inspect and all said they had never worked on an LG dryer so they would replace part by part until the replaced the faulty item.
On that basis it would be cheaper to buy another dryer with a two year warranty from John Lewis which I’m reluctant to do as the LG dryer is unmarked and hardly used.
Any further suggestions would be very much appreciated.
Cheers.

Thanks for the pointer Penguin.
I changed the capacitor this morning and it made no difference.
When I turn the power on press dry, I hear two clicks from the front panel (guess it’s the printed circuit board) and then the dryer beeps at me continually to clear the filter. After a few seconds the pump which pumps the water to the condensing tank starts up.
I’ve checked the filter a number of times and it is clear.
Is it a printed circuit board fault or likely to be the motor after all.
Is there any way of testing whether the motor is faulty ?
Any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated.
Thanks again.

Hi again,
My neighbour has a spare 10 UF motor run capacitor from Maplin. A link is attached to it here
http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=30309
Problem is that his spare has four spade connectors coming from it whereas the one on my LG dryer only has two.
Can I still use the Maplin spare to test if it’s the capacitor that is faulty. If so, which two of the four connectors do I connect the two leads from the dryer to ??
Cheers,Steve.

Penguin,
Thank you for the quick reply.
The motor appears to be totally silent with no perceiveable hum from it.
The only noise is the the pump from the water drain area spinning away.
Does this mean a new motor rather than capacitor ?
I think a new motor is circa £120. Is there any way to test the motor before I buy a new one assuming it’s more cost effective to replace it rather than buying new dryer.
Thanks again,
Steve.

Hi Greg,
I’ve just replaced the bushes and it hasn’t cured the problem.
I set it up to wash, the water starts to come in but after a few seconds the door open warning light comes on and the washer and filling stops. During this process the programmer/timer or whatever you call it keeps making a clicking/ticking noise.
With this in mind I can only assume it is the programmer/timer that is faulty ??
Dread to think what they cost so maybe better to go for a new machine.
What are Beko like ??
Cheers,
Steve.

Greg,
I’ll order replacement bushes and then let you know how I get on. Just hope this fixes it !!
Thanks again,

Greg,
Thank you for the quick reply.
On both holders the bush is sitting proud of the holder by 1 centimetre.
I guess I need two replacements ??
Any ideas how much they are ??
Thank you.

Greg,
I’ve removed the two black elongated holders and both contain what I can best describe as a piece of charcoal coloured metal ? attached to a spring with a metal cable connector at the other end.
Do I have to remove the two pieces to measure them ? If so how do I get them out ??
Many thanks,
Steve.

Greg,
I’ve just mamaged to remove the motor from the machine. Surprisingly easy and only one bolt !!
I’m now looking at the motor and apart from a few connection sockets on the edges of it, the unit looks as if it’s sealed. Am I wrong ? If so is a special spanner/socket needed to undo the bolts ?
What am I looking for in respect of the bushes. Are they metal and black ? How many of them are there.
Thanks again,
Steve.

Greg,
Thank you for the quick reply.
Apologies for my lack of knowledge but what do you mean by “check the brushes lengths” ??
Steve.
