    Re: Hotpoint always cool wash

Great stuff will order this evening!

Anyone know how you remove one of these from the drum?

There is central nut which I have removed. I can now slide the heater element out but the rubber gasket has a plastic or metal flange behind it which the nut tightens the front flange of the heater against. The inner flange appears to be bigger than the hole!

    So Nut – – Metal flange – – Drum – – Rubber gasket – – Metal/Plastic flange

I dont want to go to hard at this in case I damage or mark the hole in the drum and cause it to be impossible to seal.

    Any thoughts

Thanks for all the replies 🙂

By poorly washed I mean stains, grease etc left behind.

Stripped the machine down and got access to the heater element assembly

Looking at it from the front there are 5 terminals

1 Large main feed to heater
2 Black connector terminal 1 (Thermistor?)
3 Black connector terminal 2 (Thermistor?)
    4 Earth
5 Large main feed to heater

1 and 5 the heater itself from the look of the connector are O/C
    2 and 3 read about 16k Ohms

So looks like the heater is cream crackered 🙁

    Re: Hotpoint always cool wash

We are getting through a full wash cycle fine, complete to the end.

However clothes are poorly washed, water emptied from washer is cold, no wash cycle utilises the hot water feed. (even when the water has been run before hand so that there is hot water up as far as the feed from main plumbing so that there is about 4 foot of hot water pipe with standing cold water in it)

Looks like I going to be buried up to my elbows in a washing machine figuring out how to get at the water heater element 🙂

    Re: Hotpoint always cool wash

    Hmmmmm……………….

Tried it with just the 95deg, wash and no hot water.

I take it the heater assembly is buried under the drum?

Can I check resistance in the heater, preferably somewher up top? I assume the wiring comes up to the control board. I have searched but there doesn’t seem to be wiring diagrams on the net 🙁

    Thanks
