I looked closer this morning and the problem seems to have rectified itself.

Basically I put it down to the following :

– the other half had a load of clothes in the machine all night. There was probably something caught slightly in the door
– in the morning this had caused the seal to be malformed a little, therefore leaving a gap big enough to allow some of the water out.
– once I made sure that there was nothing caught in the door, and then left the machine with the door shut tightly all day, this obviously formed the rubber seal back into its proper position

Sigh of relief for me given that the machine is so new. I have had an old Indesit running for 15 years now without any issue or replacement part – I thought that the Zanussi should be delivering a similar performance!

One final question – for machines that are so old (15 years), should they actually be serviced to ensure that a major leak isn’t around the corner ?
Or is the best advice to wait until something fails ?
