Thanks – I never thought the grinding might be the drum trying to make a break for it! I just thought the bearings would eventually seize up. We’ve identified a Bosch which is a Which? best buy at around £380, so we’ll probably order that this week. Most other options at that price point were Hotpoints, but we’ll give them a miss as I don’t want to have the fire brigade standing by every time I want to wash my boxers!
    Cheers, Andy

Thanks – some of those might be ok. I’m running our old one into the ground at the moment – small loads and low revs, but we need to replace it soon. Cheers, Andy

Thanks – and one was a Best Buy in the Independent last year.

Yes, the thought of risking lots of water in a cut-and-shut tub just above a motor was not attractive. I wish there was a way to easily know how repairable stuff is when you buy it new – I would definitely favour a manufacturer that still did split tubs.

Hi John – I’ve got the same problem, but I can’t find the part in stock anywhere. Where did you get the fan? Cheers, Andy
